Default DIC Hot Engine AC OFF!!??

I riding home from work today in cool 63 degree wether with steady rain. Of course I am driving slowly shifting under 3k rpm. My coolant was running around 165 degrees when I get a message on my DIC saying HOT Engine Air conditioning off and then my coolant temp goes to XXX on the DIC and the manual water temp gauge drops to all the way down as if the car was off. As this is happening I can hear my fans kick on high blowing full blast. The only mods I have are A Vararam with spacer, 160 stat and Predator tune. What the heck is going on?!

Can anyone shed some light on this???

you can use your predator to view the code and reset them too. It is a code for your thermostat being below normal operating range. I dont believe diablosport has an update for this but you can email them and see.

Yes, You are right! I scanned it and got a P0128 code (Coolant temp Below Thermostat regulating temp)

It was not even cold outside but 63 degrees. What are you guys with 160 stats doing to combat this?

It doesnt happen often enough for me to bother with it, i just reset it while driving and keep doing whatever it was i was doing.

I believe the person you need to contact is Johan at Diablosport. You can also go to their forum and look to see if they are working on it, or even if anyone else has complained about it. My wife deals with Diablosport daily but i always forget to tell her to mention it.

I put a Vararm on a month ago and I'm a bit afraid of driving in the rain. could your problem be water lock? You could have taken in too much water threw the Ram air. That would have put out a lot of codes....

If you take in too much water, you will know it! At first the engine will start to miss and then, if it really is too much, it will go boom.... If you have hydrolock, you won't be driving it anywhere.

no its a problem with the low temp stat. only code was the one in reference to it. it is certainly not a water ingestion problem.

I believe there was one case that a tuner blew an engine because another tuner had turned this or a similar DTC off.

This is why I used a 180 stat. I was lucky though and found one that had been tested by another member and it opens at 174 instead of 180. I feel this is about the perfect temp for a T-stat.

The code is for lower than expected temps, not higher. I find it hard to believe someone blew an engine because this code was disabled.

but according to the service manual this DTC should only set the MIL not turn the fans on, show high temp, etc.

The details of the above case I stated are a little sketchy since it was a forum tuner that blew the engine. I can't remember exactly which DTC was off, that is why I stated "or similar".

I have found it is best to not turn off any codes but rather fix the problem. You can find a T-stat that will keep the ECT above the required 167 F so this code will not show up rather than turn it off.

You might try what this member did. He bought several T-stats and then tested them. He then chose the one he wanted and sold the rest. As you can see from his test they vary a lot despite what is stamped on them.

Below is a list of the T-stats listing the stamped temp and the tested temp. He also had one that tested 170 but I do not know if it was a 160 or 180.

1 180 176
2 180 174
3 160 160
4 160 176
5 160 182

You can also take the stock T-stat and add shims until you get the desired opening temp.

When mine set this code it turned the fan on full speed, the analog temp gauge went to max, the HUD coolant temp went to the top, the DIC engine coolant read: XXX, and the CEL illuminated.
