No, you don't need to take the leaf spring.
screw the bolt al the way up, if you want a conservative lowering.
cut some of the rubber or buy a set of lowering bolts if you want more radical lowering.
the shorter the distance betwen the end of the leaf spring and the lower A arm the lower that the car will be.
You don't need to unbolt anything - just put a jack under the leaf to take some tension off and use a 10 mm to screw in the adjusters. Back won't go down much unless you cut a couple of layers of rubber off. I tried to do that with a hacksaw, gave up and had my shop pop he ball joint and take out the adjuster and cut it. Front will go quite low without cutting.
