Default 160 thermostat local store

Was thinking of doing a 160 thermostat this weekend. Do any local autoparts places carry the required thermostat?

I suppose it is possible, not probable. Try www.southerncarparts.com or one of the other Forum vendors. http://www.southerncarparts.com/corv...e-c-52_63.html

I don't think you will find one at an auto parts store. Just call a supplier on the forum and they will most likely have them in stock.

I emailed one of my local forum vendors. 39.95 for the stat. That seems high right? Are the Ls2 and Ls3 stats the same.? He has an Ls2 stat.

Don't know about LS3, check the Dealers parts dept for the replacement #, if it's the same as the LS2 then buy from a Vendor. I couldn't find a parts store with a listing for an LS2 160° stat, I ordered my LS2 stat from Tbyrne.

LS2 160° stats are a Vendor protected item. When you buy from a Vendor they ship in their own packaging with the manufactures name and stock # removed. Around $20 for the stat, even though the Manual says a new housing is needed you DO NOT need a new housing. The language in the Manual wasn't up-dated from C5's.

okay, so it seems the ls1, ls2, ls 6, ls3 etc all use the same stat. I got my local forum vendor down a bit. So with shipping, it is basically the same to buy from him even with tax. Even if its a few bucks more, would rather support the local guy that is there to do my installs if needed.

Thanks Guys

LS1 (up to the last year of production?) used a tstat/housing combo, LS2 uses a separate t'stat (no housing required).

If you have a local parts house look up Mr Gasket thermostat for a late LS1 you will get the correct one. It will be a special order, take a week, but only $17.00 for me that way.

I just carried one into pep-boys and found a 160 stat that was the same dimensions and transfered the o-ring. It was on an LS2. I think it was only $10 or so.

Exactly, 04' through 07' uses same stat, previously the stat was part of the gooseneck housing.
