Default Procharger D1 pulley

Hello Folks,

I have a 2006 C6/A6. I've had the following mods installed:

Larger Cam
Ported heads
Bassani Headers
Magnaflow exhaust
60pound injectors
Intercooled supercharger (D1/Procharger)
custom tune

Anyways, I've had this set-up for about 4-5 months now. Today, I found out that the tensioner on my procharger took a crap and is literally falling apart. I'm going to have it replaced (hopefully under warranty, since it appears to be a defect part, however I'll find out tomorrow when I call procharger).

Anyways, since the shop is already going to take the tensioner off to replace it, I was thinking of having them install a smaller pulley and belt (since everything is apart anyways).

I currently have a 5 inch belt and get about 5-6 pounds of boost. I'm thinking about going with a smaller pulley and belt combination, say maybe 4.5"?

I'm not quite sure what effect this will have and dont want to damage my engine? Does anyone have any experience running this size of belt on a D1 Procharger? What kind of boost are you getting? What kind of HP increase did you see? Is it worth doing?

My wife thinks I'm nutts, because even with its current set-up, when I gun it, the tires just spin (yes, even with traction control on). However, I'd like to see those tires spin a little faster, if you know what I mean.

Any input is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

My guess for reducing your 5" pulley down to a 4.5" on a D1 would be that you'll pick up 2 psi, and 60 to 70 hp. Keep in mind that the higher the boost, the easier it is to create leaks within the system. Good luck.

Thanks buddy! I'm at LAPD, in chatsworth, CA, these guys really know what they're doing and treat their customers right. I've been here, acting like a "bar-fly" and just chatting with other vette owners coming in from all over.

Anyways, procharger customer service was excellent and said that they're going to send me the replacement tensioner overnight.

Right now, my car does 556 rwhp (its an automatic), I'll let you guys know what happens after the smaller pulley and belt are installed tomorrow. I appreciate the feedback.

Okay, my car is finished! I went from 5 pounds of boost to 9 pounds of boost!

RWHP 600.5
Torque 544

Not bad for an automatic C6! :-)

That's a big jump. But, pushing only 5 psi with a D1 is low to begin with. I bet that an undiadonised leak was fixed when they reassembled everything. Great numbers. Bet its a beast!

Yes, shes a beast!

Yes, the car was tuned. They tuned the car, on the DYNO, in 4th gear, if my memory serves me right? In fact, they spent a few hours fine tuning the car, before she was ready.

I took her out early sunday morning, on the 15 fwy, heading to Vegas, to see what I could do. Got to 170mph like nothing, at the end of 4th gear (with a 240lb passenger on board). Still had all of 5th and 6th left! Speedometer literally climbed as fast as the RPM's!

However, I figured I didnt want to spend the rest of the day in jail and have my car impounded, so I quit at 170mph. I know, not many police cars can get up to 170MPH, however you can't outrun motorola radios.

Congrats, very nice results!!! My previous D1 (stock internals) LT headers and meth put out 625rwhp/560rwtq on a 4.25 pulley size (8.3psi), later I dropped to a 3.90 pulley. Definitely a fast car with the ProCharger setup, but I must admit my current TT setup is much more of a DEMON!

Doug at LAPD is a fantastic tuner and the boys at the shop do fine work...enjoy your ride.

Thanks for the kind words Is your vette an A6 or manual? I agree, Al and Doug, at LAPD, were instrumental and really made all of this come together for me.

Mine's a manual. I noticed on your avatar you have the LPE hood....very nice! I have the CE LPE hood. Hope to run into at LAPD or the Valley Vette GTG sometime.

I'm the guy that bought this setup and I am running the 4.25. No problems at all. I have run the 3.9 also and made 745rwhp with it. I still had no problems however I decided to go back down for longevity reasons.

Whoa, Brother!!! 745rwhp! thats insane! WOW! Congrats!!

I was told that I run a chance of damaging my tranny, if I try to go any higher and that I'd probably need to beef up the motor as well.

So, I think for the time being, I'm cool with my 600rwhp for now. I just got to stay out of the SFV, CA. area and the Conroe, TX. area, so I dont run into you guys, cause you guys got some real nasty set-ups

3544S,

What was the deal with your tensioner? The reason I'm asking is, I've been having problems also, Procharger just sent me a new one and I'm having problems with it also. Here's my set up, maybe someone can chime in with some recommendations.

02 Z06
stock bottom end
MTI R1 Cam, 918 springs, pushrods...
1 7/8" American Racing Headers, 3" X-pipe, 6" GHL Bullits
60 lb mototron injectors
racetronix fuel pump
Stage II Procharger Kit with D1SC and a 5" pulley
Plugs, wires, etc...

Maybe my car is a freak, but it made 595 rwhp/508 tq with only 5.5 psi boost on a pretty fat tune.

My problem is, I'm having a serious belt slipping problem. It slips then I think it's cutting the belt on the back side of the water pump pulley, it's really sharp and the only pulley that doesn't have lips. The tensioner doesn't seem to be keeping up, alignment looks good.

I have been tensioning it to where I can't turn the belt 90 degrees between the altenator and the water pump because it is the longest span between pulleys. I'll drive it for a while and retension, but it always seems to loose tension. I'm using $50 Gates Micro V belts, supposively one of the best, have also used a couple Gatorbacks.

I've went through 5 belts, the first one ripped my hood liner to shreads and took out my hood light. Anyone else having these problems?

WOW! I didnt go through any belts, but I was pretty damn close. The tensioner was actually coming apart and was seperating. Prior to noticing this, I would here a chirping noise, similiar to the sound a cricket makes.

I took it in to a couple of places and was told that it was a dirty belt or that it was a normal sound. Well, aparently it wasnt normal.

I actually took my vette to LAPD, to replace the plugs and change out an 02 sensor, and they found the faulty tensioner, while I was there. I hadn't even noticed it, but sure enough it was seperating. Since the tensioner was coming apart, the belt was rubbing and would have eventually failed.

I'm not sure if this helps you or not, but maybe with this little bit of added information, one of the tech-guru's on here, can help us figure out whats going on with these tensioners?
