This makes good sense. That's probably why GM put the accordian coupler in there to begin with.
I can't find a 4"-3.75" X 4.5"L silicone reducer.
I found a 4"-3.75" X 4"L and am thinking of using a throttle body spacer to make up the missing 1/2".

You can soften them up by heating up a large pot of hot water, not boiling, then with thongs pull them out & dry completely, inside & out.
That was my technique to getting them on.
Though out where you are buddy, a few minutes on the pavement in the sun would work too....
