I installed Hawk HPS pads last year, bedded them.
5 weeks later they started to Squeal loudly.
Now it sounds like two city buses on all 4 wheels.
I am running Brembo slotted, cross drilled rotors.
A tech at the Chevy dealership said many C6 owners are using XLR pads with no squealing at all.
Does anyone have experience with XLR brake pads on a C6?
Squeal on performance pads are to be expected, although it is like the sound of the exhaust, very subjective to what is tolerable and what isn't. I personally have race pads (Porterfield R4) on my Boxster and they squeal like a pig being spanked on the street, but I don't mind for the added performance on the track.
Now, from what I have heard for the C6, the ceramic pads (GM or any brand for that matter) will get rid of the squeal and horrendous brake dust, but you will lose a little performance for that tradeoff.
GM=CLUELESS. Thats all i can say about this problem. I ve changed the rotors pads at least 4 times and still noise....I think im going to sell ... Its my first and last vette. Just a lot of problems . Its a love and hate relationship....Im going to go with BMW or benz....... I wouldnt put any GM products on the car , use after market ...... Good Luck with the problems:

Try lubricating all contact points where the caliper and pads touch metal-to-metal. Especially the pad edges/ends of the metal backer of the pad that are rubs against the caliper during braking. Use anti seize compound. I fixed squeaking brakes on my Mercedes a few weeks ago by doing just this.
The squeaking is commonly caused by vibration traveling thru the pad to the metal-to-metal contact points of the pad and caliper. Most people think the noise is emitted from the rotor and pad contact. This is rarely correct although the vibration amount can be changed by smoothing the rotors. That pad to rotor contact is the source of the vibration but the real high pitch squeak is commonly caused by the lack of lubrication at the pad to caliper contact points.
Anti-seize is available at any auto parts store and is lists lubrication of brake pads as a common use.

Sorry to lose you from the family! Try a Benz next time.
Remove the pads and clean everything with prake parts cleaner and coat the BACK of the pads with anti squeal compound. It will work for a pretty good while, but you may have to do this from time to time. (once a year, maybe). It'll work.
GM ceramics for the Corvette are the answer and strike or no strike we have them in stock right now!
Yes they are. My car sounded like a bus until I got them. I love Hawk HT-10 pads on the track but HATE them on the street. I hate the Hawk HPS pads anywhere - I'll never buy 'combo' pads again. I find them to be bad everywhere. Lousy on track and dusty and noisy on street. Ceramics stop great for street use and don't dust. Been happily using them for years. I switch to track pads for track days.
Thanks for the feedback. I was going to spray WD-40 on them thats how loud they are.
The Anti- seize is interesting I will give it a try.
Is it a spray on? If that does not work I will buy a set of pads from Gene Culley.

My advice? I had HPS and threw them in the trash. I tried the anti squeal stuff before I did so and just wasted my time.
Just get the ceramics. Pads are so easy to change it's not worth fooling with. Use 2 screwdrivers to compress the pistons (pry the caliper toward you using the caliper mount as a brace) before removing bolts. Remove one bolt on each caliper to get out the pads (top on front, bottom on rear) rotate the caliper out of the way on the remaning bolt and replace the pads. Put caliper back and the bolt in.
PUMP THE BRAKES UP BEFORE YOU MOVE THE CAR.
Takes me longer to take the wheels off than to change the pads using these tricks. HTH.

Anti seize comes in all kinds of containers ranging from small tubes to jugs. Its has the consistency of tooth paste. Because of the heat generated, use a lubricant that has a high heat rating.
I first tried to use that silicone goop sold for brakes on the back where the pad meets the caliper piston and this did nothing to stop the squeaking. When I applied the anti seize on the ends of steel backing plates where it rubs against the caliper during braking, the squeaking stopped immediately. In my case, lubricating the metal-to-metal contact where the edges of the pad backing plate touched the caliper fix it.

Randy,
These are the answer for you. I got them from Gene a year ago and they are quiet, no black dust and good stopping power for street driving. Just do it, when you drive me around at SEMA, I cant have brake squealing ruining your band's latest cd......
I must be a lucky one.Mine started at 500 miles or so.I got up to 40 or 50 and hit the brakes hard till stopped, a few times, and it's been fine ever since. No squeaky deaky at all!14300 miles now.

This is funny. What pads did you switch to? The same one's and the same brand over and over? If so then there is your problem. I've got news for you guys, most performance brakes squeak, period. I got eradispeed rotors with GM ceramic pads, and they have not squeaked even once. If you don't want squeak, go ceramic. To the OP, ignore this users suggestion about not putting GM on the car. GM ceramics work great.
