I'm doing some research and read through a large number of threads today, but some of this is still confusing to me as I'm usually the type of person that just drops in boost or nitrous and calls it a day. With this car though, since it's expensive to work on, I'm not sure I want to rebuild the motor to boost the car safely...might be easier to just do an HCI package and have it survive on the stock bottom longer without all that pressure from boost or nitrous -- I would be looking for something as close to stock as possible in terms of streetability -- but maximum power output for the application. What package should I be looking at?

Thanks!
I'm extremely happy with mine and Tony at AFR put it together for me. I have afr 205 ported heads, cam [232 232 114+2], fast and throttle body [both ported], lpe intake, lg long tubes pro with cats, borla touring exhaust, and tune. I was specifically interested in low end torque and that's what I got. The throttle response is immediate and I couldn't be happier. After tune, my numbers went from 425 rwhp/398 torque to 460 rwhp and 430 torque. It's my daily driver and just runs and sounds great. I wouldn't change a thing.
I love my H/C combination, but I think for someone that is looking for something more like stock then you want to go with supercharge. S/C setup will make you feel like it is stock, but there is the extra power when youy want it.
The stock engine can handle a s/c as long as you keep the boost within reason.
That being said I have had my H/C car setup for over 3 years now with a ton of 1/4 mile passes and 3 years of road racing. Reliability comes from the parts you use and how the tune is set.

Great set up. What kind lift is on that cam, if I may ask?
Before I put my stroker 427 in , LS2 was modded to the tune of 461rwhp/435rwtq, using 215 ET heads, FAST 90, kooks, and a mild street cam 224/228/581/588/114. Great power, daily driver. Even my new motor is designed as a daily driver, using a small street cam for a big inch motor making 525rwhp/500rwtq. I'm not quit sure what you're going to use your car for, street or track, but I'm sure that will enter into your decision as to how wild it's going to be.
Since you're close to Indiana, I would suggest contacting Dynotech Engineering in Ft. Wayne. They did a L92/L76 heads/cam package on my car. I have had zero problems with it and ended up with 460 rwhp/433rwtq.
I will admit I was a little worried about that but trusted Tony's judgement. Well, when I picked it up I was blown away at the idle. It's set at 850 and sounds great.
Thanks for all the responses so far fellas -- bookmarking this thread.
Wicked -- I know exactly what you're sayin' my man, not rulin' it out completely or anything. Do you guys know of any shops (hopefully forum vendors) near the Ohio area (within a state or so) that offer their own Vortech/ATI/Paxton blower packages where they include a custom tune?

You have an LS2 or LS3? I really appreciate that detailed feedback, and yes I'm definitely up for driving a bit to get work done. I would like to ask how much $$ you invested but I can understand if you don't wish to say (PM?).
I would also consider Cartek. They are a leader in Heads/Cam packages fror the c5/c6. All of their setups have been tested on the track and back up with 10 second time slips.(even their mildest packages).
These are not radical either.
If you opt for their 2x setup it will sound and behave just like stock with a very mild lope. Perfect for the street with the potential to run 10's.

I have the CARTEK 2X package:
228/228 114LSA @ .585
Calloway CAI, Ported TB by CARTEK & Ported FAST
Kooks LT w/o CATS & Borla CAT BACK
Noticable Lope

The LS2 handles in excess of 600rwhp out of the box. There are no mods needed to run a safe 6-8 pounds boost. The ATI kits are all designed to work with the stock compression and put over 500 to the wheels at 6 pounds boost.
It meets all your other criteria on streetability.
