Default Mufflex C6 System Question.

So I called Mufflex in Trenton today inquiring about a C6 System. I wanted a straight pipe system from the axle back deleting out the mufflers, which according to them, would cost $650.00 including all the labor. I think this is kind of high, what do you guys think?

Then they also offered something that they do on alot of C6s, from the way my sales rep described it, it sounded like just gutting the mufflers and what not. I'm slightly interested in this option because it does increase the sound (which is what I am aiming for, but not as much as straight pipes would) and he said that it should increase trap speed by 1 mph. The only thing that discouraged me is the price of $450. I don't know if that is reasonable. My question is, that can I gut the mufflers myself to save money since I do want a Vararam?

I did a flowmaster muffler experiment on my 05 and the cans were 80 bucks and another hundred or so welded and installed at the local joint.Go to WWW.SUMMITRACING.COM and look around there.BASSANI catbacks are 850 new and shipped from a guy I know thru people on here, which is what I run with.Loud but no drone and good looking too! Like me!

How were the flowmasters? Considering they have an axleback kit on there for $370.00, I may just do that. Where the axleback connects to the xpipe is by clamps right? So no welding there required?

If you are looking to save $$$ , remember the C6 section has a fair share of used mufflers at up to half off and they are clamp on systems.

I think that is a complete and total rip-off. If you are accurate in describing the system (Two mandrel bent pipes w/ no muff's for $650), then that price is retarded. That piping, cusom bent (in a jig) is worth MAYBE $100.

Exactly, I didn't want to tell the guy off like that because he was real helpful in general and sounded decent. I will probably go with the Flowmasters depending on how they sound and perform. Any experiences?

$650 is way too high. You can buy used bullets for that much. In fact, I have a set I will be putting for sale in the next few days.

The flowmasters sounded like straight pipes!!!That's why I got rid of them!
Just cut your stock mufflers off and weld the 2 pipe ends together.Bingo, straight pipes.

Thats exactly what I am thinking, but so far, I am having trouble finding any other mandrel bender besides Mufflex.

Mufflex has an excellent reputation and does high quality work I have a friend that drives his cars up form NC to NJ to have Denny and Billy do systems for him. Here's the one done from scratch on an Audi TT. I owned this system for awhile. Several of my friends had this duplicated and all are extrememly pleased with the work and quality..Not cheap, but you do get what you pay for.....

Exactly.

They have a good rep, but not $650-for-straigt-pipes good. Doesn't matter how great your "rep" is; two pieces of jig-bent piping, each abotu 3' long, are not worth a staggering $650.00.

Not in this case. You're PAYING for a full SS cat back system. What you're GETTING is two mandrel bent pipes that are worth maybe a hundred bux. Don't try justify your own over-spending, by trying to get someone else to make the same mistake.

If you are looking for a "drop-in" set of pipes, Mufflex MAY be the only company who has made that to date. That still doesn't make the pipes worth $650. You can buy mandrel bent, aluminized piping from Summit/Jegs, etc. and section it together to fit and fill the space that your current mufflers fill. Put some propper tail pipes on the end and Voila', what you're looking for for a couple hundred, including labor at a decent local exhaust shop.

I think the key is...."I called them....." In my opinion, it's very difficult to provide an accurate estimate of something over the phone. Especially custom work. My guess is they threw out a price to give themselves some cushion.
