when removing the LS2 intake manifold does the coolant have to be drained? I would assume that it does, but,I don't have a service manual. Thanks for any input.

No. And you are better off without the manual since the Helms manual for my '05 says to drain the coolant.

No need to drain coolant, but here are some other points:

1) the rear bolts can not be removed with the intake in place and you don't want to drag them across the head mating surface, so lift them up and put some tape to hold them in the raised position.

2) there are connections at the rear of the intake. be careful to undo everything and not to force (break) anything.

3) the vacuum hose from the power brake booster can be hard to remove and there isn't much wiggle room, so disconnect it at the booster and pull it out with it still connected to the intake.

4) for the fuel rails, unbolt them but no need to disconnect the rail, just lift it over and lay it on your windshield with some towels to protect both the rail and your windshield.

5) replace a couple of the fuel rail bolts with the longer bolts that hold the intake down and use them as handles when lifting the intake.

That's all I can think of right now, good luck with it.

Default Intake removal instructions

Hi Steve,

One of the first things I posted when my website went live last year was a set of instructions with pictures to help people along. Take a look at this link....

www.LS2PortWorks.com

Go to the installation page. It's all right there for you. I posted the procedure to answer questions for folks because some vendors don't include instructions.
