Gen1 but the principle is the same. They work off oil pressure.
No, as I just posted, it was a Gen III. It's right in the start of the 4th paragraph of the article.
"...on a 4,000 mile '04 Corvette Gen III small block LS1 engine..."
My question was back to GlenB. He said that he had seen mixed results. The reason I posted that article was because it was conducted by Rhodes on an 04 Vette engine. I was curious to see if there were any actual Vette owners who had used these to calm down a radical cam.
I used them in a pair of 467 big blocks in my boat. It was flat tappets instead of rollers and the cams were 296/306 advertised, 241/252 @.050" on 114 LC installed straight up and the custom Bravo drives I run have a max idle RPM limitation of 900 RPM. I swapped them out for regular hydraulic lifters and noticed no difference. The biggest difference was made with carbs built specifically for my cam/engine combo...I could idle the engines down to 500 RPM (it was hitting hard but stable), blip the throttle and have it return to idle cleanly. Based on my experience, I'd say spend your money on a good tune (essentially what the custom carbs were). In my case, the Rhoads lifters didn't work as advertised...your mileage may vary.
Talking to different tuners before I bought them, a common comment was the noise they make at idle as essentially they turn into a solid lifter at low RPM. I never heard the "noise", but then again it was hard to hear anything with two big blocks cackling at idle through open headers with dry exhaust. Full throttle sounded like the whole NASCAR field driving by...all music to my ears!
