I'm trying to get some info on how much wheel horsepower the A6 can handle safely and reliably.....Would 450rwhp be too much stress for the A6 and the rear end to handle over the long term?
I spoke with a GM certified Corvette mechanic that does performance mods on the side for Corvettes in Orlando, FL...his experience was that the A6 is a very strong tranny and would easily handle 500/550 rwhp....along with a gear change to either 3:15's or 3:42's...he has done a couple of C6/A6's with SC's and gear swaps with success!
He has even changed out the heads and cams on LS2's and LS3's with A6's and they run just fine! His biggest complaint was the un-availabilty of upgrading the shift points as there is no software available yet to tune these trannies past the stock shift point timing as well as any aftermarket converters...atleast at the time I spoke with him...back in July.
For what it is worth, you may want to do this kind of research yourself with Chevy shops that are not afraid of mod's on Vetts...
I've got 450 rwhp dead on the nose and no problems here at all(knock on wood).Lots of dragstrip passes included. It's a stout tranny. If you go with alot of HP and sticky tires, I'd worry about the diff exploding before the tranny dying.
Thanks for the information makes me rest a little more at ease if and or when I mod my car. Problem with Hawaii is that most of the work or mods have to be DIY as there are very few if any shops around.
Thanks guys...I don't see myself putting DR's on and making track dates on a consistant basis......It would be a once in a while getting on it and for bragging rights...lol
Thats great to hear that the A6 is capable of handling 500+ to the wheels.....I just want my C6 to be a solid high 11 second car with a trapping capability in the low 120's...
congrats on the great times. however, to the guy who said to run the car without a belt on, i hope you are kidding. thats an old trick that you could get away with back in the day but not anymore.
you will run the risk of doing damage to your electrical system with a stunt like that. we all know the electrical system in these cars are touchy enough as it is.
