the exhaust will have a metallic sound, meaning you will hear a tinging noise thru the headers. The sound is deeper with headers and more aggressive, especially over 4k I have not noticed any additional heat in the console area. The headers don't hold as much heat as the manifolds and stock cats.
While it probably depends on the headers and your use of Cats, generally, the exhaust sound will be louder. Also the tone is deeper with the Headers. I have not noticed increased heat with my LG Pro LT and Matrix Cats.
when i put my stock exhaust back on from my headers/no cats setup, i had noticeable heat. with the headers, i never really noticed heat from the center console ever.

I can understand it being cooler without cats. Longtubes with cats would have produced more heat in the center console than stock as the cats are placed further back under the car.
FYI, I've also noticed increased valve train noise, heard in the cockpit, with the fuel rail covers removed. Then, I replaced the plastic intake manifold with an aluminum one, and that noise has intensefied even louder.
I was surprised at how little the sound changed when I installed headers. I could hardly tell the difference unlike I was used to with earlier gen motors. I have not noticed any more heat.
I agree with Maui, put KooK's 1 3/4 LT's on my 06A6 and have notice no increase in noise unless my head is in the engine compartment and interior heat is about the same. Now the sound when you go WOT, that's a thing of beauty.
You will certainly get more interior noise with headers.
For me, it was not annoying in my 2005, I had LG Pros on that car. It was a manual.
But in the C5, which was an automatic, and had KOOKS on it, it was a bit annoying because I would get a pinging type sound when the torque converter locked up or when the car dropped into a lower gear.
What increase in engine noise in the cockpit can I anticipate with Kooks headers?
Will the stock exhaust sound change with the headers?
Will the center console get hotter with headers?
Thanks for any posts
My 08 with Kooks about right. Not real loud!
Cockpit levels are not much louder at all!
Car sounds alot better.Just right! Mine is non npp and it is still pretty quiet! A little more throatie sound.
The loud comes with aftermarket cats backs!
No worries I did mine myself!
I put LG headers on two C6 cars, and a different sound from the motor but not distracting or annoying at all. Exhaust sound was a little louder with stock mufflers, perfect with Magnaflow and some short race bullets.
No change in interior heat with LG cats and piping. I love the whole setup and we have been on many long trips with no complaints or problems at all.
If you weren't told the car had headers, I don't think you would notice the engine sounding different from the side of the car or while driving it. I don't remember what mine sounded like stock since I put headers on it before the license plates arrived.
Exactly why Im holding out, I already have a loud fast stinky car, Id like this one to be quiet as possible.
There is a solution. Get headers, keep your NPP muffers (if stock muffler, you wont hear them at all except at WOT and not even then not much louder than stock), get a Mild to Wild and cut a wire in it (see member ModShack) so the valve is either fully closed or fully open as it eliminates the 3500rpm limit). Fully closed all the time is stealth mode. Imagine the surprises you could pull at the traffic lights!!!

If you want headers and dont want the LOUD, adding it to stock exhaust is the way to go. I ordered kooks, am removing my beloved Corsa Sports, and putting on NPP mufflers with Pipedreams NPP In A Box (which has a fully closed option).

After my AR headers were installed my cabin is cooler. Now that stock cats are gone and the AR cats are further back down stream.
The stock cats are pretty much stuffed under were my feet and legs would be.
Hey Frank. Scott here. If you remember, my buddy brought his silver '07 C6 to the Corvettes Against Breast Cancer event this year. I put a set of Kook's long tube headers on his car in my shop at home. We also removed his catalytic converters and replaced it with Kook's "X" pipe. The last thing I did for him was to install a Vararam intake. I can tell you that his performance gains were quite noticeable as soon as we pulled it out of the shop. As far as noise, here's what I can tell you. It does have a completely different sound than factory. It's not loud at all at idle and has a little more of an old school rumble. There is noticeable popping when decelerating, but I think it sounds pretty good. I can tell you that it sounds really good under heavy throttle. I cannot tell you if cabin heat is a problem because I haven't driven the car too much since then, but he hasn't said anything negative to me about it. Since then he's added a ported throttle body, intake and a custom tune by Jeremy Formatto in Florida and now his car will walk away from my C5 ZO6. Let me know if you want to meet up some time and test drive his car to give you an idea of what these mods may do for your LS3, or if there's anything you need done that I can help you with
Take care,
Scott
