I dug up the two slips from that night. I actually cut a 1.821 on the 11.44 video above. I forgot I had the video from the second run, and this is a good example of what can happen if you get a bit too high on the rpms off launch (3600). I'm not sure how good the ls3 clutch will take a little slip, but I know the ls7 hates it. This was going to be a great run, the headwind had died down from earlier and the temp had cooled off. I cut a 1.815 60ft here and the clutch sticks to the floor as I'm reaching for second. pops a split second later and I make the shift. Not sure how much that cost me
Did you make it through the traps in third gear on that pass?
yes. I definitely lost "time and distance under power" with the clutch pedal issue, as I finally got 2nd engaged further down track than the 11.44 vid, even though I had 60fted quicker. Although everything happened rather quickly, it seemed like an eternity waiting to grab 2nd. helpless feeling, like wtf do I do now? the pedal popped up all by itself
this is an '06 z06 on runflats, but it's a pretty good vid showing the wheel reaction off the line and also the fact there was a huge headwind, so you can really hear the throttle modulation off the line I made. I held the revs about 3200 and just progressively lifted off the clutch and squeezed the gas pedal down, basically inverse relationship. It's probably WOT and zero clutch within 5 feet of leaving the stage box. 60ft was 1.84
I like the analogy of facing a busy intersection off a side street at a stop sign...you want to get across fast and use the throttle, but avoid lighting them up.
Great launch. It looked like you didn't have the slightest bit of trouble catching traction. Everytime I try that, even holding revs in the mid 2k range, the car just starts spinning, even with a gradual release. The burnout must help a lot. I've only messed around with this car on back roads with no one around (no burnout).
