Finally got around to checking back axel nuts & both were loose, really loose, about hand tightened. 33mm Axle socket by Powerbuilt from Kragen Auto, nice heavy duty socket. $15.99.
I've had my '05 Z51 back for about everything you can find on this forum. Rear halfshaft failure, rear CV boot failure, grinding from rear (fixed with differential flush refill--finally after two attempts and failing to add two cans of additive), deck lid release button sticking, top snaps and crackles (de-lamination), Active Handling light intermittently on and off (wiring), Air Bag light failure (frayed wire under seat), clutch feel and broken return spring (they never, never at two dealerships checked the master cylinder fluid levels), cracked and replaced center console, and FINALLY popping and clunking on shifts, acceleration, and decelleration. Guess what, it was a loose axle nut? I fixed it and torqued to 140 ft lbs after finding stuff here. And now everything is smooth and my shifts are not an embarrassment. This forum has taught me two very imporatant things: (1) Do your own maintenance and (2) pretty much anything you need to know about how to maintain or fix your 'Vette is right here.
An earlier post I made has the link to the TSB...
The torque spec has been revised to 160 Ft-lbs.
Throw away the loose nuts...
You need new ones because of tapered threads. Use blue locktite...
