I think some here think you are full of hot air, but for me, I think you and your car are full of cold air. I mean, if you open your hood after a half hour of driving even in cool weather, you could still fry eggs on the rail covers. That finally convinced me to go from my propped shroud to my Honker cloned Xcelerator. btw-you did ever get that Battery Minder? I got a e-mail from that company that its now selling for $39.95 till the end of Nov.

I'll let you know....the bad news is I am doing the dreaded shroud removal & install surgery at the garage (with lift) hospital scheduled for Tues at 9:00 am. The good news is the weather is supposed to be good that day for 50-100 mph HP Tuner scan logging

Good question....that's the way to go but I got a "thing" for keeping the stock parts that I replace with mods....I got such a good price on the Xcelerator ($265 incl shipping) that I paid $55 more for a new pre-cut to fit shroud. So out goes the stock (to save) and in goes the pre-cut.

Hi...reporting back that the Xcelerator install surgery went fine. Took two of us exactly an hour, no major problems, and it was a smart idea to get that precut shroud (and pre riveted) as it saved lots of time and no doubt a better shroud job than I could do. It comes with a GreenFilter Co. filter which are good ones. Fits A-OK and it doesn't make the sucking noise like some, does not collect bugs or water like some, was easy to install and it makes good flow/hp. I have seen the Calloway Honker and to be honest, the Xcelerator is an exact clone that comes with a better filter and instructions...and at a much cheaper price. I'll have to wait for Spring to see how much ET I save over my propped shroud...my conservative guess is 1/10 second. For sure this true blue Cold Air Intake will be a plus and bye bye to hot underhood air.

Just dynoed my LS3 with the only mods being a 160stat and my "K&N CAI"(Includes heat guard and shroud prop).

With the hood closed it made 396 and then 398whp. No tuning. Auto with 2.73 and NPP. IATs were constant and were ambient at all times.

I havent had a chance to run my car with the K&N at the track and log temps yet...its been raining the last two weekends in Houston.

Car still scoots though

I dont regret the K&N and open shroud at all. Took about 10 minutes to install.
