Default ls2 vs ls3, whats the difference?

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I tried search but didnt see anything on this topic.

Whats the difference in the ls2 vs ls3 besides the obvious 6.0 vs 6.2 liters displacement? Im wondering if thats the only place the extra hp and tq come from.

This will help me decide if its worth buying a new 2008 C6.

Great start to the thread!

Do some more searching for an in-depth answer, as this has been discussed; some specification info also available at www.nationalcorvette museum.com.

In short:

- substantially reworked block (many "minor" tweaks that add up to a stronger block)

- New considerably higher-flowing heads with much different, highly computer-optimized intake ports; closer to LS7 flow than LS2

- larger valves for better breathing.

- intake pushrods offset to make room for the new port design

- new intake manifold to match the new heads

- LS7 fuel injectors

[[basically, an entirely revised top end]]

- more sound control -- intake manifold "hat" and additional sound insulation under coil covers; new air intake resonance suppressing boxes

- available NPP exhaust (smaller (2.5" vs 3") version of Z06 butterfly valve mufflers)

Others will no doubt add more.

HTH!

I doubt that it's that much. Now that the 07's are into rebates etc. the difference is greater, but a few months ago the difference was only approx $1K, model for model, based on "supplier" pricing. Obviously the difference varies, from one dealer to another.

Difference is with one you have to deal with the jealousy, envy, and hate from the other's owners. Dont be too enthusiastic about it or you will incur their wrath.

Just add headers and a tune with a Vararam, then ya don't have to worry about the LS3 guys.

This is a no brainer. If you don't have a LS2, get the LS3....not that much different in price.

Haha you guys are funny. But thanks for some of the more serious replies as well.

I guess what im trying to figure out is if its worth the 40k price tag of an 08 vs the 33k price tag of a nice used one. I could add a magnason blower for the difference.

But this will be a huge investment for me and i plan to keep the car a while. Just trying to weigh my options.

If you are going to upgrade your car, spend the extra money on the LS3. It responds VERY well to upgrades. I have seen a 2007 C6 with LG Motorsports cam, headers, K&N intake make 450 RWHP. My '08 with the same mods made 501 RWHP. Their shop car made 508. That's quite a difference. Plus the changes in steering and shifting alone are worth the extra $.
