I am looking at doing this, and was wondering if anyone has seen/done this before?
Search brought up 385 pages, didnt see anything relevant there.

Well, I totally agree with you. Either I slam it to shut it without "touching" and leaving fingerprints OR I gently close it while holding a cloth to stop smudges and scratches on the top of the lid. I would install ANYTHING in a heartbeat to have the trunk batten itself down after the lid makes contact with the latch.

yeah my trunk lid opens enough for me to wedge my fingers under the lid about 20% of the time the other 80% is a PIA

I'm going to look into this, too. In the meantime, I'm having the 3M film installed, and I asked for them to add a ~4" simi-circle of film on the rear edge of the trunk lid, directly over the latch, to protect the paint where I push down with my palm,
