Is the S mode only for the paddle shifting or is more agressive with the Auto as well? In other words if you want to race and NOT use the paddles do I still put it in Sport mode or leave it in Auto mode??????
Race and not use paddles, S will work great for you. Auto is more for better fuel economy and leisure cruises. Most A6 folks drive in S all the time. At the strip, most either do S with comp mode on or S with just TC off.

With the tranny tune stock, I noticed very little shift firmness difference until WOT, and even then it was not a ton. An aftermarket(professional) tune really wakes up these A6s. Jeremy Formato (forum vendor) or a local shop with C6 experience should have the updated HP software if you choose to go that route. I think what you'll notice most if you take your car to the track with stock tune is the torque management. It'll feel like you're falling on your face at a hard launch and at shift change in WOT. The new software disables TM. GM will not do that for you.

How much do most HP tunes cost? Is it a computer flash or do you need your own tuner or chip? I come from the Cobra sean.

You'd need a laptop,an HP tuners program and software. My shop has all the equipment and dyno, so I'm not 100% as to what's all involved in buying a set up for just one car. There is a "tuner" section in the forum or maybe someone in this thread can hook you up with better info. It's not like a Diablo or Hypertech handheld,though...

So it sounds like I dont need any hardware or software. I can just have them Flash the stock computer.
Had AR headers and a tune, as well as a A6 tune. Now when i nail it from a slow roll the car just slides all over, so new sticky tires are coming. But my A6 really kicks now!
