Default Runflat Vs Nonrunflat Grip

Has anyone compared their track/autox times on runflat vs nonrunflat tires. I'm trying to decide between the Firestone runflats and the Michelin Pilot Sports.

My experience tells me the Bridgestone RE050A is much better than stock or the PS2's. The RE050A have much better side grip, don't roll over on the edges as much and run cooler.

It's a given runflats aren't the best tires for track use. My Z06 size Supercar runflats do well-enough on a road course but the priority for me is the security runflats afford on the street (especially on those long interstate trips). If being immobilized by a flat tire doesn't concern you, go with non-runflats...there's no question non-runflats will perform better on the track.

The best solution, if possible, is to have a dedicated set of non-runflat tires and wheels for the track (like with Hoosier tires) and a set of runflats for street use.

In my case...non-runflats would improve my track performance but I also realize I still haven't hit the full potential of my Supercar runflats. I'm working on it though.

I went from the Supercars to PS2s, there's some improvement. Its hard to quantify, because in addition to comparing older and newer tires there's temperature and so on. But I do have some favorite corners with nice markers where I can clock exit speeds, and I see a bit of improvement on most of them.

I think the PS2s, RE050As or perhaps the Advan Sports are your best bets for a step up from the stock tires. The Firestones are good tires, but probably not quite at that level of performance.

The choice seems to depend a lot on the driver. I like the RE050As, they're easy to drive, but I just haven't been that fast on them.

But of course the best deal is to have a set of track tires - preferably DOT-Rs like Cups or Hoosier Rs.

That's what I would like to do eventually. I have a spare set of rims. Waiting on 19" track tires to become available and trying to figure out the trailer thing. I like the security of the runflats but I spinout at the track too easily on the Goodyears.
