Because the clutches in the differential are slipping to allow for the difference in rear axle rotation speed whle in a turn. The clutches bind sometimes and cause that noise. Fluid change and additive eliminates this and silences eveything down for you.

Three times (3) and a total failure on changing the fluid and adding 2 cans of additive. This went on for 16 months and 17k miles on a 21 month old car. GM and there bullitins are a bunch of delay, delay, and delay on fixing a warranty problem and having to go through this 3 times, damn bullitins and the Grapevine dealer who screwed up the repair by damaging the seals and these had to be replaced a month later when they were leaking ALL over the differential case and on the leaf spring. They denied that they were leaking, had a BIG TALK with them. GM and the dealer stink. You would think after building rear ends after 50 years they would know how to build them, SLOW LEARNERS!
