Default Rodent Problem

Probably a dumb question , but someone has to have some good advice when it comes to cleaning a motor. I recently opened my hood to do my oil change and was freaked out by what I saw. There are tons of empty snail shells under the fuel rail covers, all over the battery, and even cooked onto the intake. Additionally, there were a ton of rodent droppings "cooked" onto the same places as the snail shells. Obviously I need to resolve the rodents in my garage issue, but I was hoping someone could tell me the safest and most effective way to get my motor clean. I thought about power washing it, but a bit afraid I will damage something. What about steam cleaning it? I am disgusted by the way my motor looks and I am about to buy a cat and make him sleep in the garage. Also, after a good inspection, there is no damage to any of the wiring under the hood.

Thanks,

Captainkelp

Bummer! However, you are lucky there was no damage. My neighbor had pack rats do the same thing to his car.... I wouldn't power wash it; elbow grease is probably the better way. You can get some orange or citrus cleaner from Home Depot (Ace, etc.), cut it 50% with water, spray on, soak, and wipe off with a brush/towel/etc. Finish with a little detailer on a rag. Good luck.

You are lucky the wiring wasn't touched since it's like candy to rodents. About 3 years ago, my 1998 Caddy Eldo got attacked by a rodent who ate through the coil wires, windshield wiper wires and the wiring down to the passenger side door. The only way I knew there was an issue was because the Northstar engine started cutting out on the way home from work. I drove it down to the dealership and to my surprise there were rodent feet marks all over the engine. Fortunately, my car insurance covered the $1200.00 bill.
