I am curious is there is any difference (improvement?) between the '08 shifter and earlier C6's? I think I've read where the shift ***** are not interchangeable between the '08 and earlier cars as well?
I don't know whether it is the shifter or the transmission but there is a night and day difference between the 06 C6 and my 08 Z06. In the 06 I had to put in RP Syncromax fluid to get the transmission to be even half smooth when changing gears especially when cold. When I picked up the Z06 yesterday the temperature was below 40 and the car shifted smoothly immediately with no warmup. It also seems to be a shorter throw but I could be mistaken as it has been a month since I sold the C6. I sure hope the smooth shifting lasts.
I did not notice a big difference going from my 05 to 08. The most noticable difference is that it can be shifted into first while sitting still much easier. But that is a factor of the transmission, not the shifter. My opinion is that the shifter itself is either the same, or very close.
I replaced my '08 stock shifter with a Hurst billet shifter. The throws are much shorter and more positive, but there is a "notchiness" to the shifts. Still, glad I made the change for the shorter shifts.
Has anyone tried installing the '08 shifter on a older C6?
According to the GM marketing materials, the shifter is not the source of the improvement, the new T6060 tranny is -- so replacing the shifter won't give you any better shifting feel.

In my test drive of an '08 I noticed no difference in shifting at all compared to my 2006. Well, I did notice one difference - I wished the 2008 had the C5 clutch spring I put in my 2006.
Actually, for the all of the hype I've heard about the T6060 improvements I was expecting a lot more improvement than I felt. The steering, in contrast, felt a LOT better to my hands. Oh, and one more thing, the LS3 is simply killer. What an improvement over the LS2! If that's only 30hp I'll eat my hat.
I just wish they'd fix the damned transmission and linkage.

ARE YOU SURE YOU DROVE AN 08????
Unless mine is exceptional, which I don't think so, this new TR6060 trany shifts like butter. No T56 I have ever owned shifted as smooth.

Yes, I drove an '08. It's pretty difficult to mistake it for an '05-'07, what with the interior changes. Still not up to the ease of our '03 Z06. I had previously noted a lot of variability in shift and clutch feel with the C6 T56s, perhaps that's still true on the T6060.
the t6060 shifts a lot better at high rpm. That is where the t56's had the most notchiness to them.
Weird, my '05 shifts the easiest at highest rpms. I used to to tell people it was designed that way.
But I think variances related to quality control and simply luck of the draw.
My 05 z51 shifts great, of course its nochy when could, but when i test drove the 08 z06 it was the same, if not worse. You just have to shift slow at low rpms and not as hard as at redline.
