I need help determining what air filter system is the best of the after market units. So please tell me what you guys think is the best and you have seen what type of gains. Thanks for the help.
I bought a K&N used for 150 bucks shipped....can't beat that with a stick.
Opened up the shroud and it pulls hard at any speed now.
Most people are going to tell you the best is a bottom breather like callaways, vararams or breathless....which is true, but a good deal on an open-air element is hard to pass up, and with the opened shroud I feel it gets enough cool air.
I am not understanding; the guy's engine didnt get hydrolocked with a cold air intake and thats why you dont want a cold air intake? He went through a puddle and he was fine. Sounds to me the issue wasnt water in the engine put on the electronics. At the stock height, the K&N will still get water inside the engine if you cut a hole in the shroud or not. The thing isnt water sealed. The water will rise to the same height with a hole in the shroud or not.

Where did you find the K&N for and LS3? I cannot find one.
Right now the LS3/Z06 CAI is on backorder from K&N. They are coming out with a replacement filter element for the LS3/Z06 sometime in Jan 08, which is great news.
I have the original Halltech Stinger, and the bottom of the filter lays flat on the shroud. Does the K&N set up off of the shroud to allow better flow to the bottom side or does it lay on the shroud as well? With the support brackets in the OEM spots, it looks like it and the SLP Blackwing would sit up better.
Not if it is your engine. Can happen with a CAI installed...... just like driving through the Fox river!
there are parts of the Fox River that a car could drive though i just find it hard to picture getting enough water into the engine to cause damage. you would think when water hit the MAF it would short out or stall and stop the engine but what do i know i still live here.
