why not just put an 05 A4 with c5 diff in there. My diff is a used unit with stock 3.42s that I bought in the C5 used parts section for 600. I think others have replaced their A6 with A4s but I think it's usually the extreme fast ones that go thru that. One thing unusual about my c5 diff mount is that I used my C6 side covers(they have the factory diff mounts on them) AND I made a mount for the C5 diff to bolt to the cradle. I spun 5 runs last week and it didnt break

Looks like it's not a direct bolt in then. I like the A6 so going to the A4 wouldn't be desirable for me.

Big job to swap to an 08, you have to change the trans tail housing and your rear is stronger than an 05 anyway. I don't recall seeing an automatic break an 06+ rear and usually not even the 05's...I think Dennis is the only one.

But a c5 bolts into a 05 with only a mount and some work on the cradle (Spinmonster did a great thread recently on it if you are interested).

Thanks Joe. I'll probably just keep my 2.73 gear. A 3.15 is so expensive. That's what I would need to take over Tom's #1 spot. Or a looser converter. And I'm sure he's working on going even faster so my hopes of #1 bolt-on are remote.

Don't sell yourself short. The magic is in the converter.

I'm just afraid of making my car less than streetable with a looser converter. I've been that route with my Camaro. Sure you can drive on the street with a loose converter but that mushy feeling just isn't to my liking. A 3.15 would make driving actually better. All I need is .069 et improvement! lol

Just checked the first page. I think Tommy missed my reply where I ran my 10.888.

We all continue the search for improved times no matter what we drive. It's man's quest to better himself. I think 10.5's are possible for someone and I hope to be one of those people.

Both you and Theofel produce more real raw power. You just need the launch that a 3600 gives and Theofel's weight (both car and driver) is much more than mine. I wish he'd stayed bolton and retaken the lead to push us farther. BTW, his car looks better too.

I'm pretty sure I could find some quicker sixty foots with a higher stall as well but I really do like the street manners of my little 3200 so I think I'm sticking with it as well.

As those of you that have been following can see, there's really not much left in this combo.... I doubt I will ever pull the heads and port them. I probably will put a ported stock intake on however and wait for some good air! It seems that I have been running alot of 10.61s lately even with tuning changes but I feel I have gotten faster because I'm running them is worse air.

Hey Norm

Congrats

I think that 3.15 gear would be the ticket for you and I and still retain good street mannors of this Yank 3200. I think I would get my .069 and maybe a little more.

Could be, but at $4.00/gallon now for premium gas those extra highway RPM could start to get a little expensive on those long trips LOL, not too bad with the tall 6th gear though.

I've tried shifting into 5th while cruising on the freeway while in cruise control and mileage drops only a couple mpg according to my DIC so that's not too drastic. And with a 3.15 final gearing will be much taller than my current 5th. I would venture to say maybe 1 mph loss with the 3.15?? Even with a 3.42 you are still slightly taller in 6th than 5th.

In reality, I've only got 12K miles on my car in over 4 years so mpg isn't terribly important. It's not my daily driver.

I drive in 5th all the time at 70mph and only lose ~2 mpg versus 6th gear. It would take a lot of driving to make any significant impact to the wallet.

Don't remember what speed I was traveling when I did my comparison but yours at 70 mph concurs with my results.

I corrected my typo in that last as I meant to say "not" too darastic difference from 6th to 5th.

If a gear change just wasn't so expensive in these cars. I used to change out my gear in my 88 Mustang for $150 for the gears and another $150 labor. Now amost $2 grand for the differential (exchange) and the local shops I've checked want $500-600 to change the differential. Some individuals have said it only takes two-three hours to make the change. Shops are making a killing!
