Norm....Jeremy from HPS used to run a 3.90 or even a 4.10 gear with the 4000 Yank on his C5 and dip close to where you are with D-Stock trim (stock lift cam, stock heads).

That'll give you some ET.....can you score one in the next few weeks? Since you're C5 setup they are easily available.....

Also, get some rear brake discs and calipers and put them up front. Just borrow them from someone, they fit!

Work on your rear and front alignment...call Jeremy for tips on that. There's et there.

Get some Moroso 90/10 shocks, they are super cheap, matter of fact I think Roger's got a set he took off the c5 he just bought so ask about that.

And see if you can borrow a Kirkey seat for yourself.

Take out the 30 lbs of carpet in the car.

If you're feeling really froggy...take your top off. I think it's only 4 or 6 bolts? OK maybe that's over the top. No pun intended.

You're playing in the sandbox with the big boys now. You need to use some big boy tricks. Those things with some negative DA might tickle your 9.

I got one! that I "think" may work and put him into the 9's which would really "POP" the big boys eyes out on the 60 ft's and he gets to cheat too!! This would also be inexpensive to do. Some tuning will be necessary!!!

Get a piece of thin light weight black plastic, mud flap, etc. and cut a strip off. Make a bracket that hooks to the front suspension so the strip moves up and down with the wheel with some light spring loading to take care of any wheel lift. Make the bracket so it locates the strip towards the center of the car. Wait till night to show up and make one pass.

In the "Olden Days" they stagger the front wheels from what I hear tell so you would not notice.

You guys are ate up!!!lol
i feel like i'm way to far off to think about 9s...thats just insane to even ponder it!
If i can run a 10.25 that's super far from a 9.9999999.
You guys know how hard it is to get any little thing!.
Joe, I've never met you... but if all is going well at MIR and we get plenty of runs I will offer to let you make a pass in my car for sh#ts and giggles. Who knows.... maybe you will have an a4 next year lmfao I'm not wanting to drive your car in return. If you car runs 10.60 there I would run a 11.20 in it..lol

I ran 11.2 for two years, then finally got to 10.99 by dropping weight and launching harder. So yes, I surely know how hard .2 is to get!

Norm you don't want portly self piloting your car...I'm tipping the scales at 188 today...no lightweight jockey for sure.

Take just a minute and ask Jeremy about the alignment he's using, those shocks his dad took off Bob's car...and see if you can score some rear brakes to put on the front! Those little things might add up to .1.

And if you can beg borrow or steal a Kirkey seat...oh and I forgot to mention, and take off your mufflers, and get a light battery...you might get another tenth!

I wanna see you do it man!!! When the records are recorded, nobody lists all the weight management.

I sent Jeremy a pic of the 10.35 timeslip last night.. I can never reach him by phone.... Maybe you can go pay him a personal visit and shake his cage to make him call me back.lol He says he's covered up busy.

I felt like I was cheating when I pulled the pass seat out
I can probably find a kirkey seat if I wanted. I'm not sure about a smaller battery.. I don't want to buy one to use just one time. What batteries are you guys using for weight? A motorcycle battery???
How much ET do you think there is in removing the z06 muffs? They prolly weigh close to 40-50 lbs for the pair. Not sure if the engine will like or not like reduced back pressure.
Keep the ideas coming
Joe that wheels up pic is finally clear as can be

I just weighed my mufflers when I did the clutch a few weeks ago (thought about replacing them with turndowns) and they were 25lbs a piece.

Mufflers+lightweight battery+kirkey seat should be good for a solid 75-90lb weight redux

I know you said brakes, I assume that includes calipers and brackets as well as the rotors? How is stopping power with the smaller rotor up front?

Yes, calipers, abutments and rotors. With the smaller caliper you will surely lose some braking power, but I've seen the fast guys looking for the last 10th use these little brakes.

I wouldn't go on a road course with them.

And I see lots of guys running old school iron in the 10's with drum brakes...keep in mind.

Maybe we can pull the rear brakes off a certain blue/black vert at MIR

Bring fluid and you got it buddy. I even have speed bleeders already. Bring a cheater bar too...the first time you take them off the locktite is hard to break. Actually a hot wrench would be useful for both our cars.

Hey Norm

Congrats on the record.

I would go for a racing seat & a light weight battery....as every pound counts. Removing the mufflers will mean you have to retune due to the loss of back pressure.

Joe has cutouts so I know somewhere he has a record of the what the reduction of back pressure did to his tune

Thanks Tommy, I have been asked a few times lately how much my car weighs. Today I went out to the track to watch the NMCA/LSX race here in Indy. I weighed all my racing wheels this morning and my streets and I have exact weights for all of them. Here are the results:

In full street trim with me in the car it weighed 3360
I weigh 175ish
I saved exactly 44lbs from the GTO setup
I have 2 sets of rear wheels with identical DRs..one set weighs 80 and the other weighs 90lbs I raced the last 3 times with the 90lbs to save my light ones for MIR...so I saved 28lbs on the rears(and will save 38at MIR) I weighed everything that I removed from my car(floor mats,CDs etc) came to 8lbs
I removed the pass seat 53 lbs
Aside from what I listed I have not taken weight off from anywhere on the car except the front sway bar which was 9lbs. It's a NAV/HUD car and very well optioned. I haven't done any drastic weight removal (smaller brakes, remove AC,etc) I hit 22k on the car on my way to work wednesday.

That means that 3 days ago when i ran 10.31 that I weighed exactly 3227 with me in
I would like to hear what everyone else weighs if they know.

I met Marc (LS1LT1) today at the track among other CF people and he saw my car. Seems to be a very nice guy.
He said he thought my car sounded quiet(for it's potential). He also assured me that I will run much better in the MIR air/elevation He thought maybe even a 10-teen
I am almost positive that I will bring a Kirkey seat to MIR and if some one has a light battery that I could borrow for a run I would appreciate it
Marc, feel free to add opinions after seeing the car first hand(except that it needs a bath..lol)
I'm not thinking of pulling the mufflers because it is a PITA with the 3"over axle pipes on the A4.

I'm not thinking of pulling the mufflers because it is a PITA with the 3"over axle pipes on the A4.

Marc is a great guy I have raced with him several times over the years. He has driven my car and always goes faster than me too

The key to making our Corvettes really fly is weight reduction. Take a look at your car and look for anything that can be removed without being a real pain.

I have the complete Z06 exhaust from manifolds to mufflers and there is no way I would ever remove the axle over pipes & mufflers, they were a real bear to install in the first place.

I would go for the lightweight battery; the smaller brakes are always a good option. The racing seat while lightweight is as uncomfortable as HELL

With a good DA and track prep at MIR you should see at least a 10.1XX with the extra weight reduction. In addition, you will have Gary and Rob Z there for more help.

FWIW, in all-out drag mode with the passenger seat removed and 2 gallons of fuel, I weighed in at 3028 w/o my 225lb *** in it. That puts me at ~3253. That was BEFORE the lightweight clutch, new tires(up to a 295 from a 275), and the nitrous sytem pieces(not the bottle) so I'm going to ASSume that the lighter clutch is cancelled out by the heavier rubber and misc nitrous parts.
