I have to say that when i did install my Vararam it was a pain, but it was well worth it(Track Proven ) and as far as Quality goes, i think it looks great under the hood. I get compliments all the time. Steve from Vararam has a great rep and awesome customer service, just pm him and i am sure he will help out. Good Luck .
my VR is waiting to be installed in the garage. What can be so to get the template correct to cut the hole ? not rocket science. update the template and instructions. listen to your customers.....while they are still customers.
what is the opinion on the relo bracket for the oil cooler (Z51) ? only one bolt hold it on ? is it secure ?
Just finished installing mine. Did research ahead of time on forum and I had a good article from one of the vette mags. I knew ahead of time that the instructions were poor and I would have to keep trimming the hole until it fit. Any CAI where you're cutting the shroud is a PIA. At least with Vararam you can leave the shroud in the car. I found the unit to be well made. Installation went fine.
I didn't actually do mine myself but I was there during the install and it took Roy at Cartek Racing less than 45 minutes to do and there were zero issues during it. Granted he has done MANY of them before but it does prove that even though the instructions might not be perfect, the unit certainly DOES have the capability of going in quite easily if one knows what they're doing.

It's on the 2008s, there's a bracket that sort of gets in the way during a VR install than wasn't on the 2005-2007 cars.
He's referring to his 1/4 mile track elapsed time results using a Vararam but he is mistaken on one thing about that statement...he actually went eleven fourteen (11.14@121.59).

I installed my VR without a hitch. the quality of the product is top notch! They have made some improvements from the previous model!
It takes just a bit of massaging, but mine fit quite well, and gives a nice HP increase!!
I recently went 124.4 MPH in my 08 at the track with just the VR, headers and exhaust! No real traction down low, so the ET was not there, 11.92.
I'll try again next month with some DRs!!
I have read a lot of posts about Vararam's quality not being so great, even one online magazine article I read agreed. So I've been hesitant to pick it over the Callaway or LPE.
A lot of people say the Vararam will gain is a few tenths over the stock unit, but I've never heard a claim made for how much the Callaway or the LPE will gain. Anyone have any numbers for these or any others?
I too, am on the fence about which CAI to get for my car. I would like to see some real world numbers on ET and MPH before and after the installation of a Callaway, Lingnefelter, Vortex or any other ram air induction system. Can anyone help? Thanks
As much as I enjoy tinkering, I will have my installed by a shop that is familiar with the Vararam installation. After reading all of the horror stories, probably money well spent!
There is no doubt in my mind that Vararam gives me the best performance on my car. When I go WOT at 70mph, I know there is not another CAI that I would want to have on the car at that moment. Period.
HOWEVER, when I look carefully at my shroud that I cut, I get angry. I was extremely careful with the template and cut. Suffice to say my shroud now looks like a POS. Maybe some day if I get a wild hair, I will once again call Steve from Vararam and purchase a precut shroud and figure out how to remove and replace it. That should keep me busy for awhile.
Shroud aside, the unit works well now and Steve from Vararam helped me every time I call him with my issues.

I have been reading about this issue for years, first with C5s and now with C6s. They have always gotten good marks on performance, but I continue to wonder why they won't address the instructions/fit issues considering the negative press it periodically gets them. Seems to be a no brainer just from a business standpoint.

I ask the same questions. If sales drop off, maybe things would be different?

if you cant install get someone who can, plain and simple. you get someone to install your gears for about the same performance gains. the template fits perfect if you put it in the right location, is vararam supose to send you to school to learn how to follow simple instructions. like i said a hundred times. i went from a slow 12.91 to a fast 12.38 with the vr and spacer. with the first one i probably had it first no problems. steve at vr sent me a brand new unit 2 months ago, it was way superior to the old as far as construction and sealing, it is a work of art, the plastic is so much more beautiful, and so shinny and black, and now i have went an 11.14 in the 1/4 if you dont race by another uni if you want to go fast and your car pull hard in every gear, rpm range, get Vararam, all the other units have been tested thats why Vararam is number one one the list
1. I massaged it some more last night and it is fitting a touch better, although still hitting the hood(not by much though). The coupler that connects the upper part of the intake to the maf housing is on the shroud, so it cannot go any lower in that respect. What needs to happen is the upper VR unit needs to be tilted at more of an angle to keep from bumping the hood. Since I already have the unit maxed out for depth on the slots they have for their mounting bracket, the only thing I can come up with is just seating the upper half of the intake farther into the coupling. This is going to require trimming the coupler at an angle to allow the upper part to further seat with in it as the lower portion of the coupler is just too long.
2. It was raining here last night so there wasn't much of a chance to feel a difference. HOWEVER, I did get a quick third gear run in and OMG.....I did not expect to feel any power as its just an intake, I was definitely wrong. The car pulled much harder up high, I couldn't believe it. Supposedly it will get stronger too as the ECU learns the new amount of flow created by the intake. Not going to lie, I am starting to become glad I bought it. Honestly, last night I was furious as it had taken me 6hrs to put that damn thing on before it "fit." Knowing what i know now, I could probably do it in about 1hr as trimming the shroud was the longest part and then relocating the oil cooler bracket took at least an hour after I realized my first couple attempts at it weren't enough.
I will be happy with this product once its on without touching the hood. I will say this though, its definitely a "your going to have to work at it" product.
Sorry you went through that, did you check on the board for additional instructions or helpful hints.
The 06 and 07 with the help of the board made it very easy. Did several of them and got the cutting down pretty damn close and very neat.
Why should anyone have to go to CF for instructions to install a product that is delivered with instructions from the manufacture.
It would seem that a company could at least send complete instructions for installation of there product. This is not the first post that we have seen where the template for cutting was the incorrect size. For God sakes Varram at least get the easy part correct the instructions the install is the hard part.

my installer did tell me he had to play around with the red couplers to make it fit, see if the picture helps you out.
