Just curious if anyone notices if their '08 engines ping. My '07 does a little and it drives me nuts. I'm running 93 octane, changed brands and been to the dealer and to no avail. Not looking for solutions, just curious if the '08 pings a little too.
If it's really pinging or knock. It shouldn't not if the knock retard is working. That's it 's job. Take it to the dealer.
Plus the '08s have a slightly lower compression ratio (10.7:1 versus the LS2's 10.9:1), though I highly doubt that tiny bit would be enough to have one detonate any more/less over the other.

It's definitely a ping. Again, not really looking for a solution because I don't think there is one without getting a tune or replacing the car. Just curious if the '08s ping too.

??????? Why do you think there isn't a solution? A stock 07 should not ping on 93 octane gas......period. 91 shouldn't ping either. Try a new dealer. If they can't fix the problem have GM replace it.
You might want to try a decarbonization procedure just in case... won't hurt to try.
Tried chevron cleaner with techron. Did help a little. The reason I say there is no solution is that the pinging is minor and is compensated for by the computer very quickly. That is normal within specs even according to the owners manual. BTW, silverspeed, every '07 I've ridden in or driven which is boxstock pinged occasionally. My older vettes never, ever pinged. Unfortunately, I've got really good ears.
