Purchased used C6 Convertible AT with Z51 Package, 7900, in Feb 07Good Deal. I noticed over the past several months, the car makes a clunking noise and feels like it rocks forward a little when 1st started and only when I 1st start the car. I don't seem to have the problem with clunking noise on turning. Took it to the Dealer, they've never had this problem before, and it doesn't appear to be part of TSB on rear end. Does anyone have any possible idea what it might be, Dealer called their tech dept. Waiting on answer.
#1 thing is make sure you take the car to a good dealer, with mechanics who know Corvettes inside and out. There are alot who know diddley about Vettes.
When I start the vehicle it feels like the car surges forward and I hear a clunk in the rear of the car. The dealer I take my car too has a vette mechanic, and they have worked on my previous 99 C5 Convertible with good results.
That could be, I do not have any problems with transmission at any other time, my factory warranty runs out on time in July 08, I'll be sure to quiz dealer and the tech guru about that possibility. Thanks.
We had the same noise in the rear end of our 2005 Convertible. We took it to the dealer and they were able to eliminate it by adding fluid to the read end. No sure where fluid went as there were no signs of leaks.
He stated it surges when he first starts it.........nothing to do with the rear end ......but your right, a lot of diff's were making noise and adding posi-traction additive got rid of it......
I appreciate the input, will be talking to the Dealer Service manager on Monday to see what they found out from the tech guru. Past few days it doen't seem to happen, wonder if anything I can do without making it worse. I'll let everyone know what they say.
Something to think about, this morning I changed the rear-end fluid for the first time in my '99. At 304K miles, I figured it can't last forever and I've been hearing a weird noise coming from back there that I'm still trying to locate. Probably bad tire, but not sure. HOWEVER, when I drained the rear-end, I got about 5/8ths of a quart out of it. Its supposed to hold 1.7 quarts. It now has the required amount and two bottles of Limited Slip Additive (Per the dealer who this one I trust). There were no metal filings/particles in there although I noticed a touch of water, probably equal to 10-15 drops of water and a little swirl in the drained fluid. The hard part understanding is where the fluid went too? No leaks ever.
