any recommendations on which style blower is better? i have a 2007 c6
6-speed, and i want to put a supercharger on it. i am looking at the magnuson and the procharger. i want to get around 500rwhp and still be perfectly driveable on the street, but quietness is not important, the louder the better lol
it is more a question of where you want the power. Centrifugal tend to be a little more 'peaky' with the power coming on at higher rpm's where roots type will have it all throughout the rpm band. Roots definitely out power centrifugal down low and therefore usually will have more traction issues as a result. 500rwhp should be easily attainable with either system.
The roots will require a new hood be installed as well. Some more food for thought....... GM chose a roots type supercharger for OEM equipment on the new ZR1 and Ford used the roots type on the Cobra/lightning vehicles with great success. I am not stating centrifugal superchargers are not reliable, but OEM companies definitely place reliability in high regard when selecting a supercharger
I've had both, but on my mustangs. I loved the low end of the roots, instant torque. Being it was a roots blower, not quite as effecient as a twin screw though. However, I do think I prefered the top end pull of my old centrifugal. It was a 1200cfm blower and above 4000rpm, it just screamed.
thanks for the comments, i never really thought about the reliability issue, makes sense (putting them on factory vehicles) that is. any ideas on which one will come out cheaper in the end. i mean the whole nine, install tune, and even the hood for the maggie, or will they be about the same in the end?

Centrifugal. You won't have to pay for the hood, or the paint on the hood.
1 type is not better then the other..........you have to decide what YOU want. The centrifugal will be cheaper after everything is said and done. I 've owned a centrifugal car in the past, after owning my Magnuson for over a year.....I wouldn't buy another centrifugal. I like the power delivery much better. Do alot of research and talk to owners....no one can tell you what is right for your car.
i am leaning toward the maggie, i want a fast STREET car. i got a price quote for the entire kit and it kind of scared me lol but i have heard nothing but good things about this setup. now i just need around $10k.
Yea, the price is a killer, but after you read the installation instructions off the Callaway website, you'll see why. Great instructions, too, by the way. They actually give you a lot of stuff in their kit. So, the Maggie is what I'm going to put on my 07 Corvette, but I'm also in process of rebuilding my 91 Camaro which I plan on using the ProCharger. I haven't purchased the Maggie, yet, as I'm waiting for Magnuson to come out in production of their new design, the 2300. Their current design uses rotors with 3 lobes twisted at 60 degrees while their new design uses 4 lobes twisted at 160 degrees, so I'm going to be patient for this neat beast!
thanks guys! has anybody had any issues with the maggie or the procharger on their cars? any idea of which would work better at the drag strip? i would think the maggie b/c of the low end power but i havent ridden in either so i cant say
I had both on my Mustang GT a while back. There are pros and cons to each . . .
Positive Displacement:
Pros:
TORQUE
Instant Boost at all RPM
Throttle response
Sound . . . quiet at idle then screams up top
Cons:
Needs a new hood for a C6
Lower power limits (still 500-600rwhp on a C6)
Less efficient, produces more heat
Tough to launch, low end torque causes traction issues
Centrifugal:
Pros:
Don't need a hood
Easier to intercool efficiently
Higher boost and power potential
Power never ends . . . awesome at high rpm
Easier to launch
Cons:
Noisier at idle (at least the ones I've heard)
Boost requires higher rpm and more throttle opening
Low end torque is not much more than stock
Considering all of those, I'd do a centrifugal on my C6. LS3's already have a good bit of torque down low, I can only imagine what the car would feel like with 8lbs of intercooled boost at 6500rpm . . .
thanks jahan i plan on visiting vengeance motorsports sometime this week and hopefully i can see and hear both (maybe even test ride lol) in cars that have these setups. i am looking for around 500rwhp but ya know how that goes, i will be happy for a while then want a little more
