Did you use the appropriate chime module e.g. Peripheral GMAHCM. This provides a signal to the computer that says the audio system is okay. Don't know if not using will trip the CEL though.
tmak26b is right. You need to run a scan on it and check the code, otherwise you are just guessing. You can buy an inexpensive OBDII code scanner ($50) and do it yourself or stop by any Autozone and they will do it for free. The scanner will also allow you to clear the code and see if it resets.
