anyone do headers with stock exhaust, to keep it somewhat quiet and pick up some HP, and how much HP did you get?

I had the stock exhaust hooked to my LG longtubes,hi flow cats and LG midpipe. The sound was nice, kinda like an exotic while revving. I swapped out the stocker for the lighter and louder SLP loudmouth 2 a few months ago and now it's pretty nice, just slight drone with windows up and at 80MPH, but not unbearable. I picked up about 30-35 rwph with the headers/cats/midpipe over stock .

and yeah yeah, I know some of you like it loud like Nascar, but this vetter don't

originally I had Kooks headers with hi-flow cats and x-pipe into stk exhaust. Gained 30rwhp with tune on an a6. Slightly louder but after 6 months ordered the magnflow axelback for a little more sound and I don't like the smallish looking stk tips

thanks guys, good results

I like the sleeper look of the stock exhaust, I think I'd like to go that way in the future, just have to decide on type of headers.

Just finished an 08 today with ARH and stock exhaust, it sounded really nice, load at WOT but nice at cruise.

Had DynaTech's 1 7/8" headers, cats and x-pipe with stock mufflers for a few monthe. Nice quiet cruise (really not much difference than stock), but roared at WOT.

I have ARH with their x pipe and cats through stock, (non-NPP) exhaust, and made 424rwhp. Sounds about the same idle and cruise, but there is a difference when you get on it. Its not a lot louder though.

We have the headers and stock catback on our 07 now...sounds a little louder at idle..but pretty much the same otherwise. The Corsa Extremes we have waiting for it will change that.

I might be going that route as well eventually, not just to keep the noise down (I will likely not be going with cats which makes things even louder yet) but also to save come cash. For the price of some cat backs one could buy an entire long tube/off road X pipe set up.

Not to hijack the thread, but I just got factory Z06 manifolds, cats and H-Pipe, with 02 extensions (FREE!!! ) Will be doing the install next week. From some of the other posters that have done this, they are getting 26-30 rwhp from this swap. Im going to reduce it down to 2 1/2 inch after the Hpipe to use the Magnaflows that I currently Have. This is the budget mod of the year!!

Take a look around and see if you can find a Z06 guy that has done headers. They might just sell them cheap.

I will post results after install probably next thursday!

Will be Racing either Friday or Sunday

I do have access to a set but I also have a hard time believing that they will actually deliver 26+rwhp on an LS2 all by themselves. And before going through all of that labor to put them on I would need to know that for sure, otherwise it would still be best to stick with the 'tried and true' long tubes that we've all come to know and love.

Yes, but for free, im gonna give it a shot. Even if I get 10-15, I will be super happy. Im trying to get into the 11's at around 1k in mods!! So far,
Tune-300
CAI-225
Mufflers- 250 installed
Labor for z06 manifolds-300(includes before and after dyno).

Total- $1075.

IF it gets 15, that puts me at over 380 to the wheels! (on a very conservative dyno)

I'm going to the dyno this morning. I have Stainlessworks 1 7/8 headers with their x pipe, cats and NPP exhaust. The car is pretty lould with the NPP open not bad at all with the NPP closed, just a little bit loulder than stock.

I went with the kooks 1 7/8 headers w/o cats through the stock exhaust. No drone or roar while cruising, but it sounds pretty good at WOT. The wife doesn't mind taking long trips in the car now. She would definitely complain if it had Bullets or Stingers

I have ARH 1 7/8th headers, x-pipe with highflow cats going to the stock mufflers. Gained 40rwhp with the setup. It's great for me, just a little louder then stock with no drone.

The comment about the wife riding along can't be discounted. I've recently installed Bassani headers, off road cats; actually their whole system - with the single muffler serving as the cross over. The sound is great. Low and throaty and screems at upper RPM's.

Now wife doesn't wish to take the vette. Gotta be considered.

It was a major reason I didn't add a catback. My 76 with sidepipes is so loud she flat out refuses to ride in it. A great deal of the enjoyment I get from going on trips is the opportunity to drive my car. I achieved nice performance gains, while keeping the noise level acceptable for her. Sometimes it never hurts to compromise a little
