As I understand, the pre-cut will not work, with your 07, A6. -- Do a search on this. -- --

even if it worked, the precut is tons more work that just taking the template and cutting the shroud with a box cutter. Be sure to have a thick piece of cardboard behind to protect other componets.15min job with a sharp cutter and strong wrist. I used a white china marker to outline the template, removed the paper and cut, test fit, trim a little ,and final fit. No issues at all, not even excess dust and derbis in the engine bay.

Yes that is KEY advise, do not go too far through it and puncture your condensor.

I actually removed the stock shroud, cut it and reinstalled it back in.

DON'T DO THAT, because it was a major PITA! I wanted to do a nice clean job with the cutting, which I did, but wow what a job that was to remove and replace, so I agree with the above guys...be real painstaking when cutting it while it's still in there!

Definitely just cut the stock shroud with it in the car. Be careful, but its much easier this way.

I have the VR and the pre cut shroud. It going to be installed on Monday by a local shop. The shop wanted the pre cut. I called VR tech and they said that the pre cut will work with the C6 A6.(not bad for a Saturday) It's the Z06 that has the oil lines going through the side of the shroud.

Yes, just cut it in the car. place apiece of cardboard between the shroud and condensor. Be careful not to cut too deep, so you will avoid hitting the condensor. Its a little nerve racking, but really not that hard. if you choose to remove the shroud, this will be much more difficult and time consuming.

Thanks for the good info. I ordered mine without the precut shroud but wasn't sure at the time if I did the right thing. The directions for removing the shroud looked a bit hairy.

Yep. I talked to the folks at Vararam, and they rcomended just cutting the shroud. I'm in the paint/bodywork business so I wasn't too concerned about getting the stock shroud out and replacing it, but why try to re-invent the wheel? In the instruction pictures from Vararam it looked like you had to bend the bottom of the bumper quite a bit to remove the stock shroud, which concerned me from a paint fracture standpoint.

Cut the shroud in the car with a razor knife. Put something between the shroud and condenser so you don't poke a hole in it. You may have to trim several times before the unit fits the way you want. If you're not comfortable with the install then get a shop to do it for you. A number of people have botched the install and blamed it on Vararam.

I don't know about the Z06, I have the Z51 package and Steve at Vararam told me the pre cut shroud would not work, due to the transmission lines running through it.

No lines through my Z51...on ZO6 it makes sense as the dry sump is near there.

Default Heat up the plastic shroud

When I installed my Vararam I had bought the precut shroud and decided not to use it because of the hassle of removing the factory shroud. I have an 08 C6 Z51 and there are lines going into the shroud. I did find out that it made a huge difference to heat/soften the plastic shroud before I started cutting. I used a heat gun but I'm sure a hair dryer would also work.
The whole install went well, a lot easier than I thought after reading all the negative posts on the forum.

I just installed mine without using the template or precut shroud in about 30-45 min. It was very very easy. Especially love the whistle it makes now.

After all the complaints about Vararam templates being the wrong size why not get the precut shroud and use it as a template. At least the hole will be cut the right size the first time without having to re-cut.

That is exactly what I ended up doing with my pre cut shroud. Used it as the template.
