The dealership would like to charge me 190 dollars for swapping out my factory polished wheels to factory chrome wheels on my 07 vette. I found this a little much. They claim they will need to recalibrate my wheel sensors when they are removed from the car for any length of time – is this fact or will the car learn the sensors on its own after a certain length of time?

As long as they keep the sensors in the original positions (move sensor from old Left Front wheel to new Left Front wheel, for example) there is no need to 'recalibrate', and they (or their mech) should know it. Ask to talk to their mechanic... if he gives you the same line -- lookout!
I would think that $30 per wheel would cover dismount, remount, and balance almost anywhere.
Does the $190 include any kind of 'upgrade' charge for the wheels alone, or is it all labor? Are they supplying the new wheels, or do you already own the chromes?
Overall -- their price is high, but doing it yourself (finding the wheels, swapping them, reselling the old ones) will probably not be worth the small savings.
The price is a little high. I changed over from the polished c6 wheel to comp grey because I HATE the polished wheels. I had a garage do it for 25 a wheel and they didn't recalibrate anything at all. It all worked find after they installed it.
A $190.00 is a little hight but that is what you call a stealer tax. The one thing to remember is that if they mess something up while replacing the wheels they will take care of it. But if your local Elmer Fudd scratches your new or old wheels you will be wishing you spent the extra cash. FYI
Thanks everyone for there input, most of you have confirmed just what I was thinking, price is high but you get what you pay for... More than anything I want to hold someone to the fire if they scratch my old wheels as well as my new ones - I think its a given if they scratch the paint what I'll be sayin and doing.
And there is nothing to recalibrate in the tire pressure sensor. All the car can do is learn the new position of the sensor if it's moved from it's original corner. And that's a 5 minute job at the most.
you will pay more at the dealer but they will almost certainly f up your car more too. Go to a tire shop that guys rec in your area the incentive to do a great job is higher there than the dealership IMHO

Yep. They're ripping ya. Go back in there and tell them you know better. They'll back off and give you the regular dismount/mount tire with wheel balance price...............at least for EMTs.

you wouldn't go to a GP for a brain tumor. why go to the dealer service dept.? how many tires/wheels do they do in a day????? go to a custom tire shop that does EXPENSIVE wheels all day long. they will most likely let you watch!!!!!
