Default Short throw shifter?

Isnt the shifter in a C6 already short throw? Does a short throw shifter make a big difference? How much do they cost?

The '08 has a shorter throw supposedly. I am wondering the same question your asking. I never seem to get a straight answer though. My question is: Would you need a short throw after market shifter for an '08 since GM claims its already a "short throw" unit?

Or is the stock "short throw" (on the '08) only slightly shorter than its predecessor i.e. the '07 and under shifter?

The "search" feature is your friend - there are about a bazillion posts on short shifters.

There were two B&M's listed in the For Sale section today - $125 and $130.

Take a look at this thread:

They are constructed much better than stock with less slop and about 30% less throw.

The "short" in the term short throw is not one specific height. The 'Vette does have a short throw shifter but there are even shorter throws than the stock one. The new MGW shifter has been getting a lot of good reports lately.

I have a Callaway short throw shifter. Just installed this past Monday. I can honestly say it made a big difference. The shifts are noticeably shorter and more positive. No slop and no rattle (a common issue with shifters).

I have had many cars over the course of my driving career and each manual trans car eventually ended up with a short throw shifter. One of the best mods you can do that brings pleasure with each shift regardless of speed (wot or cruising).

My suggestion: DO IT!!!!

Default MGW Shifter Received Last Evening

I, too, have fallen under the spell of all those who have been touting the magic of the MGW shifter. So, I ordered one, and the UPS folks delivered it early yesterday evening.

As I opened the box, I was at once impressed with the packing job! Everything was there and it was packed to survive absolutely anything.

Then I unwrapped each part. Frankly, I have no idea how George can sell this product at his price... all of the parts and assemblies are works of art! In my humble opinionn (and as one who before retirement was responsible for five manufacturing plants in three counrtries), the MGW shifter is excellence in both design and execution.

I can't wait to get this thing installed in my car!!

Thanks George and MGW!
