I believe that is correct, something to do with the relief valve as I recall. Also the thread on is different so as not to install the wrong filter. I think many suspected it was a cost cutting measure by GM.
Block changes were made to the 07 LS2 to match the LS7 style of oil pressure relief. That necessitated using the same filter as the LS7.
