Hi guys! My car(2005 MT6 convertible Z51) is at the shop right now getting the following installed and tuned. Heres the list of mods:
Vararam CAI with tb spacer, Fast Intake manifold, Patriot heads and cams including retainers etc., Magnaflow magnapacks, Koni FSD's, Hotchins Sway bars Michelin Pilots PS2 and to be tuned on 94 octane by a Predator.
My tuner recommended to do headers as well at the same time to save money on labour and get the most out of the heads/cam package even though they are mild.
The question is which header should I get with minimum amount of cutting/welding to fit with the magnapacks x pipe as well as the most amount of gains in the upper power band compared to torque down low?
Thank you for any input, much appreciated!!
Ps:would it make the exhaust sound too rusty as well or more of a deep tone?
All the long tube headers are going to require some kind of custom work because they are longer than the stock manifolds. I would recommend Kooks or ARH as they are one of the shorter LT designs. Then you would just have to fab up a connection betweent the headers and the Magnaflow Magnapack X-pipe. My main concern is even Kooks might have a collector that is too long and goes past where the X-pipe mates up. If thats the case then your magnapacks will have to be modifed.

Wow!! That was a quick response!!
Thank you very much!!
Which system would you recommend for my package? If you dont want to post it here can you please send me a pm?
Thank you!
My Kooks bolted right in my 05 Z51 no cutting or welding. Actually none of the aftermarket headers should require any cutting or welding. I don't think you can use a TB spacer with the FAST. Why would you they do nothing. The FAST does it all. Also unless you get 94 octane out of the pump why tune it for that octane? Out here in California I use 91 pump gas in my forged 427 L92 motor and make 525rwhp/500rwtq. It never detonates runs fine. I would tune it for the gas you get out of the pump everyday. If you think your going to gain tons of power with 3 more octane think again. your not. Good luck. Happy modding.

Thanks for the reply!
I have an access to 94 here which is actually only a couple of cents more that the 91 they sell here and the car will be tuned for 94 as well.
What I will do though once everythings done I will try to see the difference on the dyno by using 91 and 94.
Will let you know how it went!
All the stations around here have 93/94 octane as well.
The Magnapac doesn't seem like a good choice in your situation, since it requires that you use their 2.5" muffled X pipe. The better headers will also include a 3" X pipe, so you are throwing money away on an X that you won't use.
The Magnapac X pipe will definitely have to be modified to work with Kooks, LG, AR, etc., headers. And you won't have an room to run cats if you want them.
Why not just go with one the systems offered by B&B, Corsa, GHL, etc. that mate up with a header X pipe right out of the box?
Initially I wasnt even thinking of going that far modifying the car but once the car got into shop just for some suspension work that changed, hehe, and I already bought the magnapacks from one of the forum members on here. The good part is that its not installed on the car yet.
I agree with everyone else, Sell those magnapacks and put on a set of headers. With your mods its not even a question. Also I dont think you will be using the spacer with the Fast either.
I got the AR on my 05 with borla touring. Great sound but not too loud. It cant be missed but wont draw police.
My Kooks, X-pipe, HFC's bolted directly to my Corsa's ~ no cutting, welding etc. Can't imagine that much difference going w/Magnapacks ~ love my Corsa Sports, not too loud, but she sounds great when you get on it!

Magnapack puts the mufflers under the center of the car in the tunnel, there are no mufflers in the rear like a normal catback. Definitely an issue with a header X-pipe. You can definitely do it with enough cutting and welding, but why?

I'd say go with some quality headers and a catback exhaust. I'm happy with my LGM headers and the Corsa Sport exhaust...no real install issues at all. My LPE 403 motor is tuned for 91 octane which is commonly available where I live. I wouldn't tune the motor for 94 unless you will use 94 octane exclusively...I doubt it's going to make much of a difference anyway.
If I were you, I'd call the guys at Corvette Garage and ask them for help. I have Dynatech long tube headers and they fit up with my Corsa x-pipe without any mods at all. Even the rear o2 sensor works with no check engine indicator...
