Default New Guy with A4 Shift Question

Hi, new guy here w/1st post,
I am the proud owner of a new (to me) 05 C6 Vette and new member to this Forum. I purchased an 05 Arctic White Coupe A4 Auto back in October with only 6700 miles on her and she was/is in perfect condition as far as I can tell so far. Right now she is pretty much garage kept because of weather here in the Northeast, but I have put about 400 miles on her and she feels strong when I asked her to go, but I haven't got on her hard yet. But I do have 1 question about the A4 auto with 3.15 gears: What is the speed in each gear at max RPM's shift points??
1st gear = ?? mph @ 6500 rpms
2nd gear = ?? mph @ 6500 rpms
3rd gear = ??? mph @ 6500 rpms
4th gear = 186 mph @ ???? rpms (top speed. est.)
Thanks much in advance!!
PICs to follow as soon as I can figure that out.

just leave it in 4th gear and floor it watch it shift and look at the speedometer. if you try to shift manually it will hit the rev limiter

Since I have only had the vette for a little over 3 months here in the Northeast with cold/bad weather, I haven't had the chance to take the car to the track. I was hoping that someone on this forum with an 05 A4 or anyone for that matter knew where I could find this info. I have done a search on this site with no luck. I have even searched various car magizines for back issue information and only found shift speeds for the manual. I have been reading this forum since Nov. 07 when I joined and with all the knowledgable people on this forum, I was sure someone would know the answer to my question. If not, I will have to wait for spring and get the answer myself. OK, thanks much for listening!!

i would shurley tell you if i new but i have 373 gears, but you cant shift the a4 like that it will hit the rev limiter on each shift even if you shifted at 4000 rpm at wide open throttle it hits the rev limiter the computer does best, now if you let off at the maximum rpm in each gear and then see the mph at 6500 then let off and shift it will be fine

Going from memory of my 05, 1st to 2nd is 55 and 2nd to 3rd is 90 with the 3.15. You reach the top speed in 3rd and it will stay in 3rd if you keep the gas pedal to the floor. If you let off the gas it will shift to the overdrive gear---4th.

I read elsewhere that a4 witht the stick in 3rd geaar will actually get you all the way to 186 top end faster than in 4th.

I cannnot locate the article. I can tell you that the a4 in 3rd gear with the stick in 3rd gear over goes 144 mph, way over, that I know.

Whether it will get to 185 plus I don't know, but I qtee stick in 3rd on the a4 will get you to 155 before it hits the rev

I have the 315, the base rear end will prolly get all the way to 185 in 3rd with the stick. just a guess tho.

While it's best to let it shift on it's own, you certainly can shift it youself without hitting rev limit. A6's can have that problem(you hit the paddles and it won't shift fast enough). Now YOU have shift at the right time. 1-2 is going to shift when you do(e.g. if you shift at 4000rpm at WOT it will shift), 2-3 doesn't do that, there is some delay if your not at WOT. If you are, then while accerating thru 2nd shift 3rd and it will shift as if you had it in Drive or 3rd all along. For 1/4 mi. stuff or a low speed blast, put it in 3rd and let it shift itself for best performance. Cruising around the twisties, you can shift yourself, but that 2-3 shift takes a little timing.. Hope this helps.. P.S. my HPTuner scans show 1-2 shift at 6500rpm = 50mph 2-3 shift at 6500rpm = 95mph

Default A4 Shifting

If you are drag racing, I suggest using 3rd. Although I have 3:73 gears, I think it would apply to 3:15 as well. Take AH off, leave in 3rd and mash it. I have experimented with shifting manually and it can be done but my best times have been in 3rd.

if i leave the shifter in 3 it will shift fine if i leave the shifter in d or overdrive it will shift to 4 at 130 mph at 6700 rpm if i leave it in 3 it will hit the rev limiter at redline 131 mph

sorry my car wont shift manually without hitting the rev limiter, i race it and have tried everything you can even if you time the shift its never the same even if i shift it the same. yes it will shift manually when you shift it at part throttle but not at wide open throttle, also even if you leave it in 3 or 4 it will hit the rev limiter depending on outside air temp and power its an on going tuning process. it has nothing to do with the tuning it has to do with traction and the amount of hp you make at that rpm vs mph do to outside temps

If you're planning on upgrading the rear gear-set on your '05 A4, you might want to go with 3.73 instead of 3.90. While I read posts that some have done this, IMO the stock A4 will be compromised and may eventually fail with 3.90. Believe me, 3.73 will impress you!
