Default Ported intake question

How important is the plastic tube inside the intake that protrudes to the center of the TB opening?

If removed will it effect the tune and if so in what way?

Thanks, I just installed the intake on my car and was surprised that was removed. Im pretty sure its no big deal but just curious.

I am not sure what you are trying to illustrate. Do you have a picture or a diagram?

I think you mean #1? Please acknowledge.

If so, its for the pcv loop, at least in my Z06 I have a front pvc loop that comes off the valley and goes in there. Mine, however is cut flush. Continuing, if that (#1) is the case, the laminar flow of air makes a higher vacuum at the end of tube vs the perimetry of the wall. (Also, there is a 4 mm restrictor in mine, not very restrictive.) Anyway, looks like someone is fooling with lower and higher vacuum amounts by these variations. Engineering is not so set in stone like we think.

Regardless, mine pulls in a high volume of oil from the valley. So I put a catch can on it, a one way valve and a smaller restrictor. Also a vacuum gauge to monitor it. Crazy hobby. But it's much improved now.

I like to think of it as a down leg booster for oil discharge. As we don't like the oily discharge anyway... theres really no reason to have it optimized

Oh... yeah... and its in the way A little bit of your power gain is from that being gone.

I do recommend getting a catch can of some sort and putting it in line to separate about 80% of that oily mess out of the new clean intake. It would be a shame to let it get all nasty inside. I hate to think of oil being allowed to freely drip inside the fruits of my labor
