Default First Oil Change ?

1. Alright gentlmen, my 2007 Z51 is getting close to the 3,000 Mile mark and I was wondering when it is a good idea to get the first Oil Change.

I have heard it is 3,000 miles but I want to make sure.

2. Any Idea of a good place...Dealer or Mom/Pop Shop??? Somewhere in So. Cal.

Thanks in advance...

I changed my oil the first time when the DIC registered about 30% left (close to 7K miles I think).

I would suggest trying to change your own oil...it takes less time, less money, and you know no one is screwing your car up.

I always advocated the DIY oil change but disposal is getting to be a problem. I just can't pour it on my next door neighbor's fence line anymore!

Just kidding.................Really.......... ..............

I either bring mine old oil to an autoparts store that takes it in for free or sometimes I drop it off at a friends garage who has it picked up and recylced for free as well.

And here in Austin, Wal-Mart also accepts used oil for recycling. I just pour the used oil back into the empty Mobil 1 plastic containers, bring to Wal-Mart, sign-in on their tracking sheet, and pour the oil into their collection container.

I always try to do my FIRST oil change around 1500 miles. Probably no problem to wait longer, but I like to get any possible crud out early. After that, follow the DIC, or if you are very annal (like me), do a six month/six thousand mile schedule.

I get mine changed every 5k miles. I take it to the dealer. Got my first change at 5k miles. Just got mine changed at 15k miles and I think my DIC was at 30%.

I would go by the oil life monitor usually 7500 miles unless you race it every time you drive it. My wifes BMW gets done every 15K. No need to change it early and waste $80. Old habits die hard we are so used to changing it every 3 months or 3000 miles we just do it out of habit. It's time to get used to a new habit. If you follow the oil life monitor you can't go wrong. If you beat the hell out out the car it will tell you to change it sooner.

I did my first oil and filter change at 1200 miles, then as per the oil life indicator. I do the changes myself, it is not hard to do.

I know people can't help it and want to do that first one early.
There is little evidence if ANY at all that there is any benefit to doing this, but people need to feel good. I understand.

You can trust the DIC (barring any inadvertant resets),
Every 3000 is a total waste of time, money, oil, everything.

The Oil Life Monitor is based on decades of oil life breakdown studies that GM has done.
