Default Help! Coolant problems!

Ok, I just installed a Procharger kit on my 2005 Vette. While I was at it I replaced the t-stat with a 160 deg. unit. I had to drain the coolant and now I can't get the coolant back in the engine. I know this is probably a dumb question, but the surge tank gets full and that's as far as it goes. How do I "burp" the system to get the air out? It's an LS2.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Try letting the car idle until the temp comes up to 160 and opens the t-stat. It should then draw from the overflow tank into the engine and you will need to add a bit more until it levels out .

Should take two gallons, done it many times. Fill coolant tank, start car with cap off tank. The tank should emty when you come up to temp. Repeat until full and low coolant light goes out. Take it for a short drive and recheck coolant level.

Wow! Thanks for the responses. I found a thread by glennhl that told me to try this:
With the engine cold take the coolant return line off at the drivers side head. Fill the resevoir and, with the cap on blow into this hose. The air pressure forces the coolant from the tank into the system. Stop blowing when you get coolant comming out through the head.

This method works grear and all the coolant went back in without starting the engine.

Thanks Glennhl!

I wish I was smart enough to have figured this one out on my own, but I can't take the credit. I read it on Corvetteforum about 2 years ago and have since posted it a few times. It worked great and I'm glad it worked for you.

I've got air in the system and the running w/ overflow tank cap off trick didn't do it for me and would like to try this, but can't place which hose this references.

Any one have a pic or exploded parts diagram of the hose that I'm supposed to remove and blow into?

Thanks!

you can do like the factory does if you have a vaccumn pump and a vaccumn fill kit. you pump a vaccumn on the cooling system until it reaches 28 to 30 inches and collapses the coolant hoses. then remove the pump and let in suck in the coolant. volia! no air, system full. the factory fills all the fluids in the c6 this way in about 4 minutes.
