Which Radiator will work?
I am needing a radiator for my C6 A6. Person has a radiator for sale from a Z-51 manual. Will this work in the auto? I checked on GM Parts House and the radiators they list are: W/out Oil Cooler Man or Auto, W/Oil Cooler list only one it doesn't say for man or auto. Any help is appreciated.
I would say it would work, but here are some things to note. For the pre '08 Z51 for a manual car it should have an engine oil cooler and a tranny cooler. In '08 the engine cooler was changed to an air cooler. For a Z51 car with an auto I think after '06 GM dropped the engine oil cooler but it still had a tranny cooler.
In any case it is easy to tell if you can get someone to actually look at the rad you are considering.

I have a '07 Z-51 that the transmission is for. Am I looking for the transmission line fitting on the passenger side of the radiator? If the rad does have the fitting for the oil cooler can I simply plug the fitting and not use them? Thanks for your help.

I installed a Z51 rad into my '06 F55 car to aid with engine oil cooling (EOC). The EOC is on the drivers side and on the pass side is the tranny cooler (TOC). I did not have a need for the TOC so I simply put some plastic plugs to cover the holes to keep dirt out and I guess you could do the same for the EOC holes.
The only think I am not certain of is the rating (capacity) of the manual TOC compared to a TOC designed for an auto car? I would have to think they are the same but I don't know for sure.
If you are getting a decent deal on the rad I would say do it and once installed and the car is on the road, just watch the tranny & water temps to see if they stay in the "normal" range. Worst case senario if they don't is you could add an air cooler, plumb the EOC into the circuit and run the tranny fluid through both or sell the rad and bite the bullet on the OEM correct rad or an aftermarket one.
Since you need one why not get a direct fit dewits large cap. unit? I did when I put a 427 in my 05 Z51. It's a bolt in unit. Works great. Not much more than you're going to pay for a stock unit ( $600 )

I would check out either Dewits or Ron Davis Racing

For the project at hand I really didn't need anything more than a stocker and found one dirt cheap in almost new condition. If in the future my 427 project bears fruit I will indeed go with Dewitt's. I seen and talked with their rep at the Orlando Corvette show in January and that is a sweet rad.
