Default Crankcase Vacuum Pump -- Delete PCV

In order to bypass/eliminate the factory PCV system and eliminate the oil ingestion problem, I'm considering an aftermarket vacuum system. Whatever systems are available, they're all probably pricey.

GZ Motorsports makes a comprehensive kit for the LS engines. They have a "street" kit with a pump pulley driven off the tensioner pulley. Anybody have experience with their products?

Any other manufacturers out there worth checking out? Mororso has offerings, but no complete kits that I can find.

Also, what about the fumes from the puke can? Is the odor tolerable?

Actually the PCV system moves very little oil into the manifold. How do I know this you might ask? Well I hooked my PCV system to an Oil catch can Made by elite engineering. Nice unit I Might add. Anyway it only had 1.5 OZ oil after 2000 miles. Not much. So then I spliced my valve cover breather line into my oil catch can; which normally run into the bellows. After only 500 miles it was full of 8 OZ of oil. That's where the oil comes from that goes into your manifold. Then I tried one more change. Instead of having to empty that can every 500 miles I thought for a monent and figured that oil doesen't run up hill very well so I put a 3/8 90degree brass fitting out of my oil fill cap, pluged the line comming out of my valve cover with a rubber nipple, and ran the line into my catch from this the highest point oil could be found. And guess what? After 2000 miles I only had as much oil as the PCV contributed to the can no additional oil was in the can as before when the line came out from the valve cover which is at the lowest point where oil get kicked and sucked into that line from the action of the rockers since it's at the rocker height. Oh, BTW my oil consumption went to almost zero. And this is in a motor that is a forged 427 with loose piston to cylinder was clearences. Now some of these forum mechanics flamed me for not having a fresh air at idle into my crankcase saying my seals would be sucked in. Well, after 6000 miles no leaks. You might say lucky or it just might be because my cam at idle being a 112LSA instead of the stock 117.5LSA doesen't have much idle vacume. I like to think it's the latter. What my engine builder Charlie Williams @ RPM motors thinks is that good negative crankcase vacume gives me very good ring seal along with not sucking the oil into the manifold. That's two pluses as far as I'm concerned. Anyway it worked for me.

if you're only inserting the catch can in the original flow paths without redirecting the flow paths, then how could there be increased vacuum unless the catch can is stifling flow?

Rerouting the valve cover breather from the breather hole to the oil fill cap, which is still on the valve cover, should not change anything. Am I misunderstanding something in your post maybe?

i added a catch can between the pcv valve and the intake manifold, i eliminated the bellows with some smooth couplers, and i put a little filter on the metal line that i disconnected at the belows for the fresh air. so now no oil can get into infront of the throttle body and the catch can 'catches' the oil behind the TB.

I see - but you are not increasing vaccum that way - are you?

You just removed any vacuum that would normally come from the intake bellows under throttle - yes?

no vacuum comes from the belows, it is just where the pcv sytem gets it fresh air source. manufacturers can barley get some people to change the one air filter in the car, adding another filter would just complicate things more, and seeing its part of an emissions peice, its supposed to be good for 100,000 miles.
