If it's an LS2 or 3 the cam sensor is up negating any use of double timming chains. No to worry though, There are new heavy duty single roller timming chains that work very well. I have one in my new forged 427 with the plactic dampner. No issues.
I had a double and there were cam sensor issues. I had it changed back to a single.
i reviewed your profile and i think i found your problem. the 05 vetts still use a 1x reluctor on the cam sprocket. like the ls1/ls6 cars but off the back of the cam.
Thanks for all the input so far. I have an LS1 so I won't have that issue. I thought you guys with the LS2 would provide more feedback since the LS2 had the damper installed from the factory. Most LS1 guys don't run it since it was an expensive part and is no longer made.
other methods of installing a double roller on a LS2:
* if having problems with the cam sensor:
** remove the cam sensor and shim out (will experiment on this)
** consider installing another timing cover shim metal gasket
** careful grinding under the cover.
I have an extra timing cover that I will experiment upon and determine the best solution.
Yes, the double roller route is surely not the easiest, but it can be done. And yes, there are also great single roller chains out there. Then again, I've never taken the easiest route and my labor is free.
