I've searched back through 2007, but still haven't found the thread that listed a bunch of LSx cam grinds from different vendors. There was some lively discussion around "secret" grinds. My goal is to spec a cam for my LS3, and that table would be a great starting point.
BTW, I do understand the selection process and think I have my wants and needs pretty well nailed down. I'm not looking for a racer lope or huge peak power at 7k. I am looking for the broadest gain under the torque curve I can find, even if that costs me some peak ponies from 6k up. This won't be for dyno bragging rights, rather it will be for adding some fun to ordinary driving around.
I've already installed a Callaway Honker and have LG long tubes queued up in the garage for next weekend.
See my thread "C.A.M lays it down!" & related comments in post complete w/ dyno sheets I witnessed. I don't think it's rocket science. Select a qualified tuner whom you also can establish a rapport, take your time & get to know a couple. Ask lots of questions, this really may not help in gaining a true understanding of exactly how to make power or the finer points of tuning, but what it does tell you is what kind of person you getting in bed w/. If they don't have time to make you comfortable beforehand, I assure if you blindly follow & something goes wrong you won't be comfortable arriving at a solution to fix it.
I stressed the importance of driveability, as little shake & lope as possible & he understood clearly what my goals were. He choose a cam stating you may not make the power you want which was 450+, but you'll be able to enjoy your car w/o sacrefice. By adding the right supporting mods my goals were met on the driveability side & we still hit the number at 451.5 rwhp/ 417.5 rwtq. Once it's done you want to be happy, but picking the wrong tuner or cam will be an expensive frustrating endeavor. I personally am ecstatic w/ my choice & by the responses in the post I'm not the only one who is impressed.
I'm thinking LS3s will want a bigger I/E duration split because (AFAIK), they have a relatively larger difference between as-cast intake and exhaust flows. Back in my LT1 days we would run splits as large as 224/236 on blower cars.
I've been a bit of a D-I-Y'er over the years, and will have to do a bunch of investigating so that I can understand the tuner's cam choice.
Somebody out there is forumland must have bookmarked that cam comparison thread!
