Unusual indications on oil pressure (both DIC and gauge). Gauge does normal swing during start. Settles at 0 with DIC showing XXX for pressure. Noted this after starting car the other day. Oil pressure fluctuated indication on DIC fluctuated wildly from 5 to 14 to 9 to 23 to 6 psi, for approx 20-25 seconds after start. After a few moments (20-30 seconds) idle oil pressure stabilized at normal 30 psi. Watched it for a few minutes idling and minor revving and indications appeared normal. Drove car approximately 20 miles and oil pressure indicated normal at idle and at various engine/road speeds. No unusual noises or oil consumption in car.
Started car today and it did same thing indication wise. Gauge indicates same as DIC (though of course it is swinging rather rapidly).
Suggestions?
Car is an APS twin turbo A4. Did a quick check of the oil pressure sensor wiring and it appears OK after cursory inspection. Didn't see any leaks.
I'd have a technician put an oil pressure gauge directly on the engine and see if that gauge gives the same funny readings on a cold start.
That will tell you if it's a mechanical problem in the engine or just something screwy with the sending unit or gauge. I'd lean toward a sending unit problem, if the gauge does the full sweep correctly at key up.
Hi Steve,
Do exactly what "Michrider" said. It should be very simple to get the sending unit off of the APS relocation assembly and put a mechanical gauge in it's place. Call me if you have any questions. Isn't it time for a tranny and MORE BOOST yet???? Have you run across Tommy's 840rwhp APS TT C6 with an A4 tranny out of Chancellor, AL. yet?

Yeah, its past time for me to give you guys a call.
Will have to see what my schedule looks like in the near future
No haven't seen Tommy's new beast in the flesh. Have heard about it. I expect he'll tell me he just changed the exhaust system which is technically correct

LOL... yeah, just a new fangled dual intake and exhaust were added.
Keep me informed what you find with the sending unit. It's odd to say, but it is a very good thing you haven't been back. Shows the reliability of the system as you were one of the first APS TT C6 customers back in 2006. However, we do want to see you step up to the next level.
