Default Diablo Predator Programer vs. mail order tune

I was thinking of getting a tune on my 06 m6. I've heard a lot about the Diablo, and positive mail order tunes from ??? for around $400. Anyone have a suggestions on how difficult the diablo is to use for a novice such as myself, or would I be better off sending the computer to the expert back east (I'm in Phoenix)?

I have the diablo predator, not difficult to use, best results if you data log with it and then adj. accordingly. Mail order tunes are ok but that is one tune. Predator gives you many options and you can change program as often as desired. Also the scanner function is a plus for diagnostics.

The Predator is a handy tool, but I've seen first hand that the canned tunes that come with it are generic and not that great.....This is the opposite of what I thought before I saw first hand what the tunes were doing to my car...Keep in mind the tunes I speak of are the "Canned" tunes, the tunes that come with the programmer.

History:
I purchased the Predator after I installed my Vararam intake and Borla Cat-Back, I figured I would load their "Diablo Performance Tune", which compliments the above mentioned mods, so I did and the difference wasn't really noticable...maybe a little increased throttle response, but thats pretty much it.

I then installed a set of LG Headers and decided to load their "93 Octane Header Tune" into the car......To use temporarily while I was putting together my next mods which will include a full dyno tune. I was actually impressed with how the car felt with this tune installed....I thought it was pretty good, cause the car felt strong!.....But......I was wrong..... I'm getting ready to have B&P Performance do some work to the car, like I mentioned above. Ed, the owner, went to the track with me last Friday to scan my car while I was running down the track to just get an idea what my car was doing before we did any mods......The tune was all over the place. I was running lean at cruise and pig rich at WOT. He says that there is PLENTY of room for improvement, which I guess is to be expected since these tunes are not optimized for any one individual car. He was surprised by some changes that they had in place for the addition of the headers...In their "Header Tune"

So the moral of the story is......The Predator is a great tool, and if you plan on using it to tune your car, I would data log using your stock tune and send the logs to Diablo Sport and see if they can create you a custom tune based on what they see YOUR car is doing. The supplied tunes are more of a starting point to improve upon. Just making a few minor tweaks, Ed from B&P was able to make my car feel 100% better the way it sits now before my new mods. I'm hoping for a new best tomorrow at the track.

I had almost the exact same experience. I thaught I had the car running well until we got it on the dyno. 363 HP/ 372 TQ. I was in disbelief. I had lg's CAI, ported manifold & tb. When my tuner retuned it that day the numbers went to 387 HP / 382 Tq. I felt it in the ride. That
put a new light on me and my predator. I still have it to scan & log but
I cant change the tune because it is HP. I will eventually get HP tuners
save my present tune. Then the tuner will send me my stock tune in case i need to put it back in. The most recent tune is with the PORTED fast installed. 408/412. Now Im ready for the track in cecil county MD.
Where are you running now ? Leon

Hey Leon, We're going to Test and Tune tomorrow at Cecil if you are interested. Ed, from B&P performance is going with us with his 600 rwhp ZO6.

I would really like to make it on this trip. Other committments. Would like to see that 600 hp zo6 tear up the track. In a couple of weeks for sure. Good luck, turn a 11.99 & smile.

I'll be happy with a 12.1 or 12.2.....I went 12.4 @116.5 last Friday, but that was with the bad tune and a bad 60' time....So I figure with my tune straightened out about 90% and a good 60', I should be able to get there.....11.99 would be great though?....Ok, well shoot me a pm the next time you decide to make a trip to Cecil.
