If you are asking if an 05 fob can be used on an 08 car, my understanding is that it can. Just follow the instructions from the manual for programming it.
If its an 08 fob being used on an 05 car, then that can be done also, but the metal key that is in the 08 fob probably won't work as its narrower than previous C6 keys.

That's the way I understand it too.
In order to get the metal key to work with an '05 you must change the lock cylinder on the car.

Close but no.
Get another 05 spare key cut, remove the rubber/plastic, cut the key down with a hacksaw, drill and tap, ream out the hole in the bottom of the fob a little with a drill bit, and you have a working 08 fob with a 05 key. I did this with my 07.
