You had a 4l80e in there and it failed w/ 400rwhp? Wow! I`m really suprised. Thats what most Fbody guys switch too other than the old school 3spds to replace the stock 4l60e, that 4l60e wouldn`t hold crap for power. I always heard the 4l80e were almost unbreakable. You musta had a really big converter!
I got the 4l80e after the stocker died...the new one didn't hold up too well either and I had to replace the valve body twice and 3 solenoids. The rossler felt like a great trans should and I belive it was rated for 1,000 HP.
It didn't die from racing at the strip or hwy speeds, nor from long, evilways burnouts, but rather from mearly driving at the speedlimit, going down the street....push gas, rpms rise, car doesn't go forward, let off gas, car goes into gear and then the rpms drop like a rock, push gas, it's like starting to drive a manual in 5th....tranny light illuminates...trans won't shift...no paddle useage...threw half a dozen trans codes, solenoids 2-5 stuck open, cleaning procedeure requested, possible valve body obstruction, test converter operation, etc...Local dealership said GM may request to have the trans for research and may replace mine under warranty....(wishful thinking). I hope they do swap trannies as I had similar problems with my 4l80e in my 2000 TA, the solenoids went out 4 or 5 times before I got smart and just swaped trannies. I gotta say, it put up with alot of abuse...
FWIW, only slightly north of 5,000 miles on it.
Funny...my A6 solenoid stuck w/3000 miles on it. I wouldn't shift forward or backward after backing out of the driveway. It made a nasty clunk sound each time I tried to move the shifter like it was trying to move forward and back at the same time.

maybe it's just the black ones...lol.(see his and my avatar....)
BTW, just a little info I got says look for a version of the A6 in an "uplevel" Corvette (Z06?) and a new "flat" color for '10 (possibly silver or black).
450rwhp/405rwtq...stock converter. I would never try that whole "flash it back to stock "thing, especially with a cam in there...any mech worth his shirt would know better.I'm on pretty good terms with the service manager from way back, so I'm hoping that may assist me in getting it done under warranty. If not, it's the "if you play, ya gotta pay" thing , and I accept that. In all reality, I've been surprised a stock GM auto (electronically controled, that is) tranny held up to as much as I put it through and the power as long as it did, not mileage, but "abuse"...i.e. driving it the way it was built to be driven.
Personally, I would go the RPM transmission route and just swap it out for the 1700 it will likely cost. Other things would be upgraded. I only priced the cost of my trans which had all the upgrades done to it without actually breaking first. I figured why wait.
You have a good attitude and I wouldnt let a dealership wrench on mine anyway. I changed the transmissions of my cars myself on my C5 and C6. If you can do a clutch swap, this is actually less work.
Am I getting from the last three posts, someone is Building these 6l80's up, if so, what can they upgrade and how much is it?
I just spoke to the guys at RPM transmissions they say that if they upgrade the A6 trans it will go into limp mode. apparently the computer for the tranny is built into the tranny and HP tuners havent come out with the software that they need to do the upgrade yet.
Gosh...I am trying to soak all this in....Are you all suggesting that if we just beat the crap out of our cars, drive them hard almost everytime and mod them....then they might break at some point??? That sure is a shock to me....
UPDATE:
long story short, my dealership put over 100 miles on the car, didn't fix it and I had to pay out of pocket $162.50...they refused any further work , and, even though I offered to pay for replacement/rebuild myself , they said "there's nothing I can do for you". The car shifts far worse than before I took it in and it's to the point it's really dangerous, I feel , to drive on the road ( had to baby it home and it shifts whenever and as hard as it wants to...). I have contacted GM support and hopefully, will get more response tomorrow. They seemed really alarmed by the excessive mileage they put on an already damaged vehicle.
BTW, contacted RPM, the guy said that they would have a HD build availible, but no software from HP tuners, so contact them to do the software and then they could build one up.
100 Miles! That is hours of driving unless they just jumped on the highway, which wouldn't make sense.
They read the odo at 5,002 miles on entry, when I got home, it read 5,113...I live 6-7 miles from the dealership .....tell me, how can you put that many miles on a car with a bad tranny? Makes sense why it's worse now then when I took it in.
most dealerships will NOT work on a modified car because if they touch it it can, I strees can, open a pandoras box of issues with the aftermarket parts on the car, but them shady bastereds should have NEVER even taken the car in if they new it was modded and did not want to touch it,, in short you got f&^ked!
I am highly interested in this rpm trans, I am calling them tommarow.
I have been waiting on buying a converter just because I did not want to scatter a trans nobody would or could fix. my car has almost 20000 miles on it and it has been run to death, on the bottle it makes almost 600 ft trq at the tires. So far so good, but I know it could go next time out, so I want to be prepared.
