I'm tellin' ya, simply disconnect the battery overnight, will fix it right up.
Sorry to hear it man but you are putting a lot of power through that thing and you do use it like it's meant to be used so this sort of thing can happen.
BTW, just a little info I got says look for a version of the A6 in an "uplevel" Corvette (Z06?) and a new "flat" color for '10 (possibly silver or black).
It didn't die from racing at the strip or hwy speeds, nor from long, evilways burnouts, but rather from mearly driving at the speedlimit, going down the street....push gas, rpms rise, car doesn't go forward, let off gas, car goes into gear and then the rpms drop like a rock, push gas, it's like starting to drive a manual in 5th....tranny light illuminates...trans won't shift...no paddle useage...threw half a dozen trans codes, solenoids 2-5 stuck open, cleaning procedeure requested, possible valve body obstruction, test converter operation, etc...Local dealership said GM may request to have the trans for research and may replace mine under warranty....(wishful thinking). I hope they do swap trannies as I had similar problems with my 4l80e in my 2000 TA, the solenoids went out 4 or 5 times before I got smart and just swaped trannies. I gotta say, it put up with alot of abuse...
FWIW, only slightly north of 5,000 miles on it.
Sorry to hear about your transmission.
She threw a $#**load of codes before finally giving up the ghost.
For you guys out there thinking that he could have reloaded his stock tune into the car after that, and taken it in and played dumb with his dealership.
Good luck with the repairs Frank. 5,000 miles and it went. If you can get a warranty repair then it would certainly be a pleasant surprise for you I am sure.
Out of curiousity, how much power was she making at the rear wheels?
Do you have the stock converter in it?

This doesn't bode well for me then Over 500/500 through my stock unit. Something caused my airbag light to come on a few weeks ago too. Batt disconnect fixed that, but ....
I'm pretty docile with it though, traction being my biggest fear. Ah well, only live once, right?
450rwhp/405rwtq...stock converter. I would never try that whole "flash it back to stock "thing,
Oh, I know you wouldn't. I was just pointing out to those who think that they can, that attempting such a thing is a dead end.

In all reality, I've been surprised a stock GM auto (electronically controled, that is) tranny held up to as much as I put it through and the power as long as it did, not mileage, but "abuse"...i.e. driving it the way it was built to be driven.
450 at the wheels, I'd have thought she would have stood up to that. What is the automatic transmission rated at?
I think the unwritten rule of thumb is 10% over stock, but I've read where they can hold up to 600hp/600ftlbs of torque.
Thats what was making me think that she would have stood up to the power you were making.
I remember when this tranny first came out and one of the things I remember about it was that it would hold a lot more power than the old 4L65E it replaced.

Here's a neat little bit of info I got just now as well, alot of bigger dealerships are reporting up to 6 incidents of failure per WEEK in the 6l80e, mostly in bone stock cars.
Wow, thats a lot.

The 4l80e I had in my 2000 TA failed several times with 400 or less rwhp, I had a Rossler built 4l80e put in and it held 547rwhp...until someone rear ended me at a stop going almost 50mph without hitting the brakes.I guess I'll never understand why car companies make "weak links" in cars that are built for performance. The C6 has the shaft/diff issues and now the A6, the 4th gen Fbodies had the A4 and the stock rears that died, fords...well, they all just blow up.
You had a 4l80e in there and it failed w/ 400rwhp? Wow! I`m really suprised. Thats what most Fbody guys switch too other than the old school 3spds to replace the stock 4l60e, that 4l60e wouldn`t hold crap for power. I always heard the 4l80e were almost unbreakable. You musta had a really big converter!

My F-body tranny died nearly the same way leaving a light at a whopping 10% TPS. It will be cool if GM hooks you up. Too bad there isn't a rosler built A6 (or is there?)

Its not the mileage, its the fact that it its 5,000 miles, a quarter miles at a time.
