Default Lost active handling, telescopic steering

Ok, so I finally got my seat fixed, got the car back with 2 new problems. The telescopic steering doesn't work, I tried the tapping the button thing to reset it, with no luck.

And, my bigger problem is that my active handling is gone. If i press the button, I can only disable traction control, no matter how many times I cycle the button. Competition mode, is also gone, I held the button down for a whole minute and got nothing. I can get active handling to say it's working on the DIC, but forcing a slide in a turn, but there is no intervention by the computer. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into this matter.

I've never taken out my seats but I have seen a number of photos of the passenger compartment of members who have. There are a number of wires/connectors down there. It's possible when the dealer did his magic he forgot to reconnect one or possibly damaged a wire.
You may be able to see if everything is connected by raising the seat as far as it goes. That may answer no telescopic wheel.

IF he removed the center console...not sure why he would have to but if he did he may have forgotten to reconnect the switch for Active Handling. The car defaults to Active Handling on..even if the switch is not connected it will work. My guess is check the connector. Again you may see something suspicious from under under the seat. If you partially remove the console you'll be able to see if it's connected at the switch. Just partially remove the console it because there are a lot of wire/connectors and for me it was a bit of a pain to get them all. There are some good instructions on the forum..or there were..on how to remove the console.

Good luck!

Robert

Hi, I had a problem under warranty where I'd get the TSB issue that the telescopic steering wouldn't work and the DIC would flash "please service th active handling system. The dealership replaced the active handling control ECU but that didn't help. In the end it was just a loose electrical connector under the steering column. It's the connector thats used for the telescopic steering system and the steering wheel sensor. The location of the lose multiplug is right at the steering sensor at the very bottom of the steering column almost at the brake pedal. It's tricky to find, behind a lowest kick panel and it plugs straight up into the column from the 6 o'clock position. There's a TSB out on it that suggests a simple fix to stop it coming loose. When it does come loose the active handling doesn't work because it uses the steering sensor to calculate yaw. The connector comes loose because the wire are tight and the telescopic steering pulls on them slightly everytime you get in and out of the car and the column moves. Good luck with getting to the bottom of your issue.

Just take it back. The dealer is responsable to return the car working not worse than when it went in. I just don't know why dealers are getting worse by the day. It is criminal what they do these days. They are supposed to be your partner in this venture; there to give support when needed; yet they make you think of them as the enemy by virtue of their actions.

Ok, so the switch works, but only cycles traction control on and off.

So are you saying there's more than one thing that's plugged into the switch?

It'd like my only option now is traction control, the weird thing is that I'm not getting any error codes. And I didn't keep my foot down last night, but when it went sideways, it didn't seem like the car corrected me, I felt like it was corrected by my intervention. Although the active handling light did go on.

When they put my seat back in, they did scratch the center console, so maybe they pulled it up to asses the damage. (dealer is replacing the consol).

Don't know about your active handling issue, but did you check the fuse for the telescope wheel? Maybe they blew the fuse messing around with all your seat wiring

I wasn't trying to imply there's more than one thing plugged into the switch. I didn't understand the switch was partially working.

What I meant to say is look at all electrical connectors where the dealer had his hands or feet....but I'd focus in the driver's side cockpit. If you have the patience just start looking around you'll likely find a connector is unplugged. Don't forget to check the fuses..They may have pulled a fuse rather than unplug the battery.

Dixie's pointing to a connector at the base of the steering wheel. From his description, it sounds like a good place to start. I'd use the dealer as an absolute last resort....He got you there in the first place.!

Good luck !

Exactly, I don't want to have my car laid up for another week. I was just hoping for a few ideas on places to look.

Had a simular problem with a 05 C6. Seats hud, active handiling gone. You might have them check the drivers control module. It was out on mine and your problems seem very simular. Telescoping wheel was also out on mine.

Hmm, they replaced my control module, seats work, hud works, just no telescopic steering wheel, or ability to turn off active handling. I did just notice that my left front tire is reading zero pressure, would that affect the ability to turn off active handling?

i had that same problem and they replaced the steering wheel positioning switch and it went away, only after taking it back twice to find the problem.

What problem was that? I'm thinking my active handling problem might actually be that my left front tire is reading 0 PSI. And that the telescopic problem is a loose connector under the seat.

service active handling would come on and then the telescopeing would not work. also have you driven your car recently becasue the sensors go dormit after about 24 hour and you have to "wake then up"' so to say with a short drive.

I recently had a flat (tire pressure significantly down but not at 0) and the Comp Mode would not come on. I think you got that one correct.

Bring that car to that dealer and tell them to make it right. You shouldn't have to waste your time looking for there problems.I know what its like dealing with some of these idiots. And tell them to order you a new center console if they scratched it up.It's bull**** how they handle the cars we cherish.

Correct! My sensors all read "0" and my Comp Driving Mode wouldnt come on. I went to the dealer earlier today and they programmed it...now Comp Driving Mode works!

Ok, dealer recalibrated the steering wheel and it works now. I couldn't get the manual calibration to work. I'm still reading 0psi on the front right wheel, the tech said it read good when he troubleshot it. How are you supposed to wake it back up? He mentioned that he heard something about lowering the tire pressure to reset it, anyone heard of this?

If someone else did the work, take it back. If you did the work, good luck.

Does anyone have a picture they could upload of this loose connection. I'm betting this is the problem I have and don't know where to go exactly. Thanks a ton!
